Enjoy outstanding views to the Sussex coastline from this traditional worker's cottage in the heart of Arundel
Daisy Cottage is one of a line of individual terraced cottages once owned by the Duke of Norfolk Estate that were used to house workers during the construction of Arundel Cathedral. From the front they all appear the same, but internally each one is different. This three bedroom cottage sleeps five over three floors. The double bedroom on the top floor has the most outstanding views over Arundel and to the English Channel beyond. The cottage is wonderfully central yet in a very quiet part of this historic town, so the cathedral and castle are a short stroll away.
At the front of the cottage is a bright and airy living room with contemporary furnishings, a 'smart' TV and a wood burning stove for the cooler evenings. There is also full gas central heating, so the cottage will be as comfortable for a winter break as a holiday in mid summer. The kitchen houses the dining table, and is comprehensively equipped with a range cooker, microwave, dishwasher and a washer/dryer.
On the first floor the principal bedroom has a double bed, and contemporary decor in similar shades to the sitting room below. This floor also has the generously sized bathroom, which has a free standing bath, a separate corner shower cubicle, a basin and WC. A tall heated towel rail will ensure warm towels within easy reach of the shower.
At the end of the first floor landing a door leads to another staircase taking you to the top floor of the cottage. At the front of the cottage is a second double bedroom with partially sloping ceilings, giving it great character. The view from the window of this bedroom looks over the roof tops of the houses opposite to the River Arun beyond as it wends its way to the sea at Littlehampton. Also on the top floor is a single bedroom at the back of the cottage. From this side there is a superb view of the Cathedral, which stands a short distance from Daisy Cottage. Also in this floor is a cloakroom with WC and basin.
Outside at the front of the cottage there is a small terrace area, which makes a great sun trap and a lovely spot to enjoy a morning coffee or afternoon tea. To the rear there is a lawn area which although not part of the cottage it is an area for guests to enjoy in peace and quiet. Unallocated on street parking is provided to the front of the cottage and nearby.
For guests looking for an extended family gathering we can also offer Jasmine Cottage which sleeps six and is next door to Daisy Cottage. Click here to see full details of Jasmine Cottage. If both cottages are booked together a reduction of 10% will be applied to the rental cost. Also nearby is Rose Cottage which sleeps up to three people. Arundel and beyond
Arundel is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.
Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.
Beyond the castle grounds Arundel Park extends north towards the Downs offering many fine walks. A two mile walk to the top affords fantastic downland views and south to the coast.
The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the worlds most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.
Looking further afield Arundel is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach Café built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit, the fish and chips come highly recommended!
Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.
If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this beautiful part of Sussex?
