About this property

This lovely Victorian holiday cottage is on the southern edge of Arundel, giving easy access west to Chichester and south to the beaches at Climping

It's only a leisurely ten minute stroll to the centre of historic Arundel from Loquat Cottage. This is a traditional Victorian mid terrace cottage that has been tastefully updated without losing its charm. The garden to the rear is nicely secluded with mature shrubs and a pretty outdoor eating area at the far end offering a tranquil area to sit.

The cottage is perfect for two couples or a family of five with the accommodation set over three floors. The principal bedroom is at the top of the cottage and has a great outlook to Arundel town, and the Castle and Cathedral. On the first floor there is the second double bedroom to the front and the single bedroom. In addition there is a bathroom with a shower bath and separate toilet on this floor. The living room is at the front of the cottage with the dining room behind and a well fitted kitchen at the back. A stable back door then opens to the garden.

Arundel and beyond

Arundel is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

Arundel Park extends north from the Castle towards the Downs offering many fine walks. You can follow the old 'gallops' to the top of the hill at Whiteways and admire the views south on your return.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the worlds most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Looking further afield Arundel is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach Café built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. From the cottage it's an easy drive south.

Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.
