Lancaster Cottage is perfectly charming. The pretty 17th Century thatched cottage is on a quiet road in North Crawley, a village desired for its charm, only a short stroll from one excellent pub including The Chequers Inn. Despite its relaxing rural feel, it’s only a short drive to bustling Milton Keynes where trains to central London take as little as 35 minutes. Sleeping up to four guests in a double and a twin bedroom, Lancaster Cottage is a favourite with families and couples, as well as those visiting relatives in the area or on business.
Staying in North Crawley gives a real sense of what it’s like in the English countryside and lets you live like a local. It’s not at all touristy and in addition to the two pubs there is a village shop, church, school and village green. You’ll find all the amenities you need around three miles away in Newport Pagnell. There is also a local village shop which is a few steps from the cottage for grocery needs.
The thriving town of Bedford is ten miles away. Sitting on the River Ouse, Bedford offers a wealth of entertainment from shopping to museums, including The Higgins Bedford, Glen Miller Museum and John Bunyan Museum. Motor buffs should make a short detour for a day out at Shuttleworth in Biggleswade, where there are dozens of vintage aircraft, cars, motorcycles and carriages. Shuttleworth also houses the Birds of Prey Centre and ornamental Swiss Garden.
Milton Keynes is also nearby. It’s another fantastic city with plenty to offer visitors such as a theatre, galleries, shops, eateries and attractions in and around the city including Xscape (a huge snow dome), Bletchley Park, Gullivers Land Theme Park (perfect for little ones!), Woburn Safari Park, Woburn Abbey and the stunning gardens at Stowe, which is managed by the National Trust. A day trip could also involve a visit to Stony Stratford, Newport Pagnell or Woburn itself, all of which are lovely market towns with lots to see and enjoy.
Although you can shop until your heart’s content (or until your wallet expires, whichever comes first!) a holiday at Lancaster Cottage can also include lots of beautiful countryside walks and bike rides. There are over 150 miles of cycle paths around Milton Keynes alone, including four waymarked Heritage Trails. A number of National Cycle Network routes run around Bedford and the surrounding area. The Grand Union Canal goes between Bletchley and Leighton Buzzard, offering a fun and easy cycle for all abilities. The area around Gorewell and Turvey is also good for walking. Pack a picnic and set off to find a new view to love.
The ability to spend the day in London and return to a cosy thatched cottage in the country is irresistible! Lancaster Cottage will not disappoint whether you’re visiting for a romantic escape or a fun-filled family holiday.
