About this property

This converted period cottage rests on the historic grounds of a 19th century roundel oast and hops barn, within easy walking distance of West Peckham village and its pub on the Green - recently used as a filming location for the cosy family TV drama 'The Larkins'. Tastefully refurbished, Oast Cottage offers you the perfect setting for rambling, cycling and exploring the heart of the Kent Weald, with a host of designated quiet lanes and rambling routes – including the Greensand Way. It’s a romantic haven for couples looking to discover a countryside getaway to the South of England. This luxury home-away-from-home presents a lovely entrance, boasting a south facing sunny courtyard garden with quaint formal box hedges and a patio with benches - the perfect spot to start the day with your morning cup of coffee. Inside, find a wealth of character through exposed beams and a beautiful open-plan living space, offering a hand painted and well-equipped kitchen, sociable dining area and lounge space in front of bright bi-folding doors which can be thrown open onto private decking, rambling roses, honeysuckle and an orchard of local Kent Russets. Prepare your best home cooking for a date night on the dining table over a bottle of wine from West Peckham’s own vineyard and relax before curling up on the sofa to watch your favourite movie on the Smart TV. Continuing to impress is an inviting super-king-size bedroom, benefiting from zip/link features and an en-suite bathroom, fitted with a sumptuous bath, overhead shower, heated towel rail, and washer/dryer, you’ll feel as warm as toast with under floor heating throughout. Also on the ground floor is a handy cloakroom and boot room where you can quickly freshen up when returning from your exciting days out. Oast Cottage makes a great base from which to take in the tranquil surroundings in the heart of Kent, it’s a marvellous rural destination where ramblers will delight in the chance to roam through bluebell woods or nearby strawberry fields of Wimbledon fame, and stroll over to the Swan on the Green: a welcoming microbrewery and gastro pub in the centre of West Peckham where you can enjoy an evening meal accompanied by craft ales. If you're a wine lover, simply walk over to Yotes Court Vineyard to sample their range of sustainable sparkling wine including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Bacchus, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Divico; or if wine doesn't take your fancy, walk around the corner to Downderry Lavender Farm to try their homemade ice cream and bring back some lavender oil for a relaxing bath. For keen cyclists, Oast Cottage is a cycling paradise, with winding country roads, quiet lanes and glorious views - take a trip alongside the river and through pretty villages dotted with Oast houses and country pubs before cycling home for a well deserved drink (having safely locked your bike in a dedicated outdoor bike store). Discover several National Trust properties nearby including the Great Hall at Ightham Mote, the Sackville-West’s home at Knole Park with its herds of deer and a range of castles including Hever, Leeds and Scotney, or treat yourself to a relaxing day at one of the nearby leisure facilities such as David Lloyd Tennis and Fitness Club in Kings Hill and Poult Wood Golf Club. For a truly unique experience, immerse yourself in culture in the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells for an evening of theatre, fine art, independent boutiques, tearooms and cinema, or chill out during their jazz festival in the summer months. Meanwhile, nearby historical Tonbridge is a fascinating market town with a plethora of amenities, swimming and water sports, providing direct train access to central London (well within an hour) for a memorable day trip to the capital. When you’ve finished exploring make the most of returning to the peaceful tranquillity of Oast Cottage and enjoy sitting out on the rear decking, dining alfresco in the evening sunshine or enjoy a picnic on the lawn under the established apple trees in this unique rural setting. Quiet and dark at night, away from hustle and bustle of urban life. The property had everything we needed for a weeks stay and was very comfortable - bed was very large with good mattress and pillows, sofas well appointed for relaxing read or watching the good TV. Kitchen well equipped and does contain a small freezer above a second fridge aimed at use for drinks, although this is not listed within facilities list. Tranquil lookout over gardens from main living area on both sides of property. Plenty books, DVDs, etc and suggestions for time out. Surrounding countryside beautiful and Tunbridge Wells well worth a visit and meander through independent shops. Went to Kentish Rifleman and had a good meal. Good food shops not far away in local town. Owners live in main property (a double oast house) and were both delightful and helpful. Most of our time was spent with family, but we intend to return for a 'proper' holiday to enjoy the local area fully..

It was a great base to come back to after a days sightseeing . The owners were on hand but not intrusive. I would recommend it as a fantastic get away from it all destination to relax and recharge. Thanks for a wonderful week Roz and Danny.
