Snaptrip says

Oakapple Cottage is a well-received holiday rental in Lyndhurst, praised for its location, comfort, and thoughtful touches. Guests appreciate the ample socialising space, well-stocked kitchen, and secure garden. The proximity to local amenities and the forest enhances its appeal, although some guests noted issues with road noise and maintenance.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found the cottage clean, with fresh bedding and towels. However, reports of slugs and a stained bath suggest room for improvement in cleanliness standards.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its proximity to Lyndhurst, the forest, and a pub with good food. The main road can be challenging for some, but the overall convenience is appreciated.

Guests report comfortable beds and a warm, homely atmosphere, particularly with the AGA and wood burner. Some found the front bedroom noisy, and the master bedroom's bed placement was not ideal for all.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and garden amenities. However, issues with the boiler, a slippery slope, and a flooding shower room indicate some maintenance concerns.

Guests were touched by welcome gifts and the owners' responsiveness. While these gestures are highly valued, it's important to note that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Set in Swan Green, just outside the peaceful village of Lyndhurst, within the magnificent New Forest National Park, is Oakapple Cottage, an 18th-century detached property, ideal for a large family or friends gathering in Hampshire, with the coast and picturesque countryside of the national park both within easy reach. Originally Swan Green Tea Rooms, the property was formerly a café owned by the Dalton family, popular with walkers and coaches, with an emphasis on the care of coach drivers. The café was a great little spot to refresh and enjoy the countryside air, and it is still a place for holidaying folks to recline after exploring the local area, without the café of course, but instead with a tasteful space for guests to stay. Arriving at the property, there is parking for three cars on the spacious driveway, so unloading your belongings couldn’t be easier. Unwind with a glass of wine and your favourite book in the homely and contemporary sitting room, which features a beautiful period cast iron fireplace as its centrepiece and opens into the snug, where you can relax and enjoy the glow of the warming woodburning stove. The designated chef will have all they need to prepare delicious home-cooked meals in the generous kitchen, as well as a handy dishwasher making cleaning up less of a chore! Guests will also benefit from a shower room on this floor, perfect for freshening up after a day of activities and adventure. Travelling up to the first-floor, you will discover one of four bedrooms, the first being the delightful master bedroom which is its own private haven, with incredible beams spanning the vaulted ceiling, cast iron fireplace, and a beautiful bay window, it is perfect for when sleep calls. Moving through the property, you will find an additional three bedrooms, a plentiful double, a triple bunk with a trundle bed, and a final twin, ensuring flexible sleeping arrangements for all parties and children. Pour in the bubbles and enjoy a soothing soak in the roll-top bath before drifting off to a refreshing night’s embrace in your choice of bedroom. The welcome gifts for Easter on arrival was a lovely touch. Thank you! The house had all the facilities we needed, plenty of socialising and dining space for 9 of us. We couldn't get the aga going but the portable electric hob and rice cooker worked out well. Our only slight problem was the house is on a busy main road and the kids found it difficult to sleep in the front bedroom but this was a minor issue. The house is in a great location, a short walk to Lyndhurst where there are pubs, restaurants and supermarkets and some lovely quaint little shops. Thanks for a lovely stay!

A lovely cottage with excellent facilities. The lounge was snug with the wood burner in winter. The kitchen facilities were excellent and the kids enjoyed getting to grips with the AGA. We enjoyed the garden and the pool table. Beds were very comfortable and we had enough luxury towels to enjoy the roll top bath. Conveniently located near lots of dog walking opportunities, and opposite the pub which does excellent wholesome food. Thank you for having us.
