A trip to picturesque Rye enables visitors to sample local foods at the Wednesday morning farmers market which is held at Strand Quay. By taking a stroll along the cobbled streets, there is also the chance to buy a memento from one of the many independently-owned shops and boutiques, art galleries and potteries - or even start Christmas shopping from the wide selection of goods available! Also worth a visit are Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands and Camber Castle – this area of saltmarsh protects some very special wildlife, and footpaths lead to four birdwatching hides. The picturesque market town of Battle makes for an enjoyable day out, as well as Hastings, the Sealife Centre and Pevensey Castle (where the Romans invaded). The area is also well known for its local vineyards including Chapel Down and Sedlescombe. A trip to Tenterden - often referred to as the Jewel of the Weald - is an alternative and, for garden lovers, Sissinghurst (National Trust) is not to be missed. Further National Trust places to visit include Smallhythe Place, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle. Day trips to France are possible with the Channel Tunnel a mere 30-minute drive. An excellent sky venue for astrology, photography, or just wishing on a star. Shops 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Beautiful house, great family gathering, we all had a lovely time, playing in the garden and games room. We did feel condiments, tea, coffee etc.would have been nice and havng five grandchildren kitchen roll would have been helpful. Overall a lovely house stay.

We had a fantastic weekend with our 3 generations family in this character home. Great exploring for the kids in the house and sunny gardens. They loved the games room. Several seating areas for the grown ups with parasol provided. The house was really comfortably furnished with great large screen TV with Sky and Netflix (internet a bit dodgy for streaming). Beds were all really comfy and showers were hot and strong. Kitchen was brilliantly equipped and you could comfortably cater for anything. We had a great meal out at the Horse and Cart in Peasemarsh. Really good menu for veggies and meat eaters and kids. The food was beautiful. 10 minute drive to historic Rye and 16 minutes to Camberley Sands. The weather helped.

We had a lovely week's stay at Thornsdale and were blessed with wonderful weather and the heat wave of late May. We arrived to find the house clean and well equipped for our stay. As a multigenerational family group everyone including the dogs thoroughly enjoyed all the property had to offer, particularly the downstairs games room, outside tennis table and the lovely secluded green garden space. The property is spacious enough for a large group to spread out and enjoy seclusion or gatherings in different rooms and outside. The Oast house is full of history and character and the nature of the building means it is on different levels with lots of stairs and hard surfaces so the toddler in our party had to be closely supervised. There is plenty of seating outside to enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside, the wonderful peace and quiet and very lovely bird song as well as watching out for Whisper the white pony in the field next door.We made use of deliveries from the supermarkets but there is also a very well stocked village shop in Iden and the attractions of Rye with its independent shops and the big expanse of beach at Camber Sands. We enjoyed it all. Our thanks to John who was an unobtrusive owner but very helpful and quick to respond to any queries we had.
