Lying just across the parade from the property is the town s wide shingle beach, which gives way to sand during low tide and offers visitors the opportunity to hire beach huts on a daily or weekly basis. The lifeboat museum is situated on this part of the beach, as is the historic Wish Tower, one of 74 Martello Towers built along the south coast during the Napoleonic Wars. A little further down the beach, visitors will find the town s famous Victorian pier.
