About this property

Nestled in the heart of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, you will find this contemporary first-floor apartment. Up-Top Cottage is located on the top two floors of a five storey mill workers cottage and along with Over-Under Cottage below has been carefully renovated and now boasts contemporary touches and fittings while retaining the original feel of the building. These properties are unique to this area and from the exterior this charming home appears to be an everyday terrace house, but after entering the front door at street level and climbing a single flight of stairs you will find that if you glance out of the lounge window at the back of the house and take in the delightful views over the babbling River Holme, you are in fact four storeys up! Absolutely perfect for a romantic getaway, this charming abode welcomes couples seeking a relaxing break with easy access to the scenic Peak District National Park. Rustle up something tasty in the well-appointed kitchen, then dim the lights, pull up a chair at the solid oak dining table and enjoy your evening meal. After dinner move to the cosy lounge area which boasts an original stone wall and wooden lintel beam. Snuggle up on the plush velvet sofa, switch on the 55 Smart TV with complimentary Netflix and catch a movie - if you’re lucky there may even be some popcorn in the welcome basket to nibble on. The romance continues as you wind your way up the stairs to the vaulted ceiling bedroom and find the fairy lights twinkling on your sumptuous, contemporary bespoke four poster king-size bed. If you don’t fancy cooking, there’s a host of superb bars and restaurants within just a moments’ walk. Pop across the road to Mezze and feast on Tapas or indulge yourself with a cocktail at The Winking Stag. Or walk a few steps more and find yourself in Holmfirth’s vibrant town centre where the choice of pubs, bars and restaurants are almost endless. Get to know Holmfirth as you explore the range of independent shops, and if you fancy an ice cream there’s a choice of two, Hollowgate Ice Cream Factory and Lick, who specialise in delicious vegan ice cream. Those looking to get their steps in can venture the Kirklees Way, a superb 73-mile scenic route that takes in the best of the Peak District landscape and scenery, or if you’re up for a challenge, tackle the peak of Black Hill and Holme Moss. Alternatively, spend your energy exploring the stunning Peak District National Park, offering a wealth of walking, cycling and adventure trails across rugged moors and dense forests, or unravel the beauty of West Yorkshire at the historical villages of Slaithwaite, Uppermill or Delph and even the cities of Sheffield, Manchester and Leeds are within an easy drive. Choose Up-Top Cottage for a charming getaway in West Yorkshire.

Holmfirth, an old traditional Pennine town on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines, is located in the heart of the lovely Holme Valley. Holmfirth is more than Compo and Nora Battye's stockings, as made famous by the TV series The Last of the Summer Wine. The 'Picturedrome,' the best live music venue in the North of England, attracts many well-known bands and is conveniently located in the town centre. The Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire 2014 pelotons both passed through this small Holme Valley village on their way to the famed 524-meter Holme Moss climb two miles distant. Ed Clancy, a three-time Olympic medalist in cycling, grew up amid these hills. Holmfirth also includes an excellent public pool and fitness centre, as well as parks and a few supermarkets and restaurants. The people are pleasant, the streets are charming, and the scenery is stunning. The Peak District National Park is also conveniently accessible, with its moors, dales, woodlands, lakes, and reservoirs. The Upper Derwent Region, home to the magnificent Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, is only a short scenic drive away, as is the famed 617 'Dambusters' Squadron, which trained the daring bombing operation on the Ruhr valley in 1943.

Very high standard accommodation, modern but cosy. Very comfortable bed and lovely sound of the river if you choose to have the windows open. Very welcoming host and very helpful with our last minute booking.

It's attractive, warm, and everything has been thought of—a welcome pack and milk in the fridge, lights & sockets all in the right place, kitchen space to store food (so often lacking). It's well placed for town and local walks. I would (and probably will) book again.

It has everything you need and is super clean. Even the TV had a free Netflix account, not that we watched much. Lots of useful information left by the owner and a lovely welcome pack. Some lovely pubs, cafes and restaurants just a few minutes walk. We didn’t want to leave had such a nice time. Parking up the hill was not a problem, but yes it’s a very busy junction outside the cottage so you do get a bit of road noise. But don’t let that bother you as you will miss out on this gem.
