This stone-built barn is attached to the owner’s farmhouse on high land overlooking the old town of Holmfirth. Perfectly placed for accessing the Peak District National Park, The Barn is a lovely escape for a family and two dogs looking escape to this rural region. After a day of walking, head into the lounge and get the woodburner roaring before putting your feet up and pondering on the day’s adventures. Steps down lead to the kitchen where you can perch at the breakfast bar and keep the designated chef company whilst they prepare a delicious meal, before moving to the dining table to enjoy a tasty supper. Take the evening outside and relax from the patio furniture or ease yourself into the hot tub as you appreciate the country views. Whisk away upstairs to find the bedrooms, including the master with super-king-size bed and en-suite shower room and two king-size doubles, each neutrally presented. Head into the market town of Holmfirth to find your nearest amenities, including a wonderful choice of shops and eateries split either side of the River Holme. Spend an evening at the Picturedrome, a century old picture house hosting live shows before heading to the Magic Rock Tap Bar, housed in a grand Victorian building, for an evening tipple. The Peak District National Park, with its dales, moors, forests and lakes, is easily accessible; some of the top locations include Black Hill, Laddow Rocks, Wessenden Reservoir and the fascinating B29 Overexposed Crash Site. Retail therapy can be found in the city of Sheffield, while The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within scenic drives away and well worth a visit. The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Wouldnât have been as comfortable with 6 adults as there is only 2 2 seater sofas, there was only 3 of us. Would definitely return if in the area.

Whilst the owners live on site they are unobtrusive but available if needed. The location is at the top of a very steep hill so taxis were needed but these are readily available locally. Would happily stay here again !!

The barn has everything you could need. Very modern and clean. More storage for clothes would be great but apart from that it is spot on and it didnât bother our stay. The owners are very helpful and the hot tub was a great hit for everyone. Holmfirth is a lovely place to visit with lots of walks and shops, pubs and places to eat and visit Would definitely make a return visit. Nic, Joe & family
