The Annex at Ryefield Lodge is a pleasant single-storey house in the village of Scholes near Holmfirth, in West Yorkshire. Store any treats in the freezer in the dining room, then head to the kitchen to store fresh produce in the fridge and crank up the heat on the gas hob. Once the delicious aromas of your home-made meal fill the air, set the table for four guests, as you tuck in and discuss the adventures ahead. Once plates are cleared, pop them in the dishwasher, then sink into one of the armchairs or the sofa in the sitting room. The sitting room is bright and with vibrant soft furnishings, switch on the electric fire set within a stone fireplace, then browse the entertainment on offer on the Smart TV. In the morning, sip a brew in the enclosed south-facing courtyard and fire up the barbecue in the afternoon for some grilled goodness. Uncover the artefacts at Tolson Memorial Museum, steeped in local history and natural history exhibits. Take time to view the taxidermied birds and displays exploring everyday life and transport during the First World War. Wander through the 60 acres of gardens at National Trust- Wentworth Castle Gardens, where deer roam the surrounding parkland and a series of follies add moments of surprise along the way. Pack your provisions and lace up your hiking boots for the Peak District National Park, where open moorland paths and winding valley trails invite you to slow down and soak up the sweeping landscapes. Scholes is a rural village, surrounded by countryside in Kirklees, West Yorkshire just a short drive away from Holmfirth. The village is home to a cricket club and winding county lanes for walking and cycling. To dine out there is the rustic setting of The Walkers Arms, serving home-cooked meals and a great selection of beverages, whilst a convenience store selling homely essentials can also be found in the village. A scenic drive will lead you to the bustling town of Holmfirth, which rests in the beautiful Wye Valley and is home to independent cafes and fantastic walks.
