    About this property

A charming, stone-built detached cottage, situated in the grounds of the owner's home in the conservation village of Old Glossop, which was used in the BBC series, The Village. This delightful property offers warm and comfortable accommodation and affords a welcoming, open plan living area, spacious double bedroom and a small enclosed patio garden, ideal for alfresco dining. Old Glossop, renowned as the Gateway to the Peaks, boasts a village pub, a pretty square surrounded by a cluster of 17th and 18th century cottages, a 13th century cross and a wonderful Norman church. Numerous scenic walks radiate from the village and the many attractions of the National Park can be enjoyed from the doorstep. Nearby Glossop offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs together with an 18-hole golf course, whilst the nearby spa town of Buxton, with its majestic gardens and architecture, offers a lovely day out. An ideal romantic retreat for those wishing to get away from it all and enjoy this beautiful and historic area.

This millstone grit village is surrounded on three sides by the beautiful Peak District National Park. Old Glossop can be reached along the Snake Pass, aptly named because of the way it winds past dramatic and exceptional scenery. Around the original market square, the village has houses dating back to the 17th and 18th Centuries and a splendid Norman Church, with, rumour has it, a haunted vicarage. Eastwards on the Snake Pass will take the holiday maker past the Ladybower and Derwent Reservoirs, where the famous Dambuster Squadron practised. Nearby Glossop provides a range of amenities and access to the spectacular Peak District with the towns of Buxton and Castleton in the Hope Valley within easy reach. A fabulous holiday destination for the whole family.

"Situated in the heart of a village, within easy walk of the Peaks. Easy access by car to lots of stunning attractions. Would recommend this lovely cottage to those wanting to escape for some rest and relaxation."
    Mrs Kemble ‐ 1 Apr 2018
"There was an extensive library of books to suit all tastes. It was ideally situated within the owners garden but far enough away from their home for privacy. The sitting area outside was ideal for an early morning cuppa. The local area was ideal Hill walking but within walking distance of many public houses serving different types of food to suit all tastes. A local park gave a picturesque and fairly accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs walk to the main shopping area of Glossop and the railway station took approximately 30 minutes to walk. Within fifteen minutes walk from there the cottage was a local mini market chipshop and Chinese takeaway. We would certainly recommend the cottage and village of Old Glossop for a restful holiday. However as it is also ideal for exploring the local Ladybower reservoir by driving over the Snake pass which eventually leads to Manchester or Sheffield."

"Its only Disabled Friendly feature is the ramp and path which leads to the front door. The little bridge over the river was too narrow for the wheelchair. Inside the cottage there are no fittings to help a disabled person and the bedroom is up a flight of stairs with a banister on one side. Notwithstanding this, we had an excellent holiday and enjoyed our stay at Rowan Tree Cottage. My husband has MS but managed to cope with the difficulties fairly well. Rowan Tree Cottage is a lovely property and is very well positioned to strike out into the Peak District or towards the canals and railway paths on the border with Cheshire. Please don't describe it as Disable Friendly though."

"A perfect getaway for a couple. A cute little cottage with everything you need and a nice welcome tray. Glossop, a great place for restaurants too!"

"Need a place to re charge my batteries after working all over xmas & Rowan Tree Cottage was just the place to do just that, love cottage so peaceful, didnt really know the area but nice place to go for walks, definetly recommend the cottage & would definetly go again, the owners were very nice & the welcome pact of coffee & tea, plus the homemade biscuits & flowers was a lovely thought..."

"Lovely little cottage for a couple - cosy and comfortable. We struggled a bit with the boiler- it kept coming on noisily in the night but other than that perfect. Especially for country dwellers like us - it was no nice to have 3 pubs within 5 minutes walk, and a town within 15 minutes walk! There are 31 pubs within one mile of Glossop centre, not to mention good coffee shops, restauranats, takeaways - oh, and the Peak District literally within walking distance if the weather permits! The one disappointment was that previous visitors wrote constantly in the book about how friendly and welcoming the oweners were - but we only saw them on arrival and leaving. But it was dark by 4.30 so we didn't have much chance to see them."

"Only real problem was finding the place, had ongoing argument with sat nav. Worth the effort. Beautiful, quiet setting and lovely welcome from the owners. Cottage was so cosy. Small but everything for a relaxing break. Marvellous walks on the doorstep, not to mention three dog friendly pubs (Glossop Triangle) within three or four minutes. Not sure who enjoyed it most, my wife and me or the dog. Can`t wait to go back."

"Lovely situation - I enjoyed crossing the bridge over the stream to get to the property. Able to go for long walks straight from the cottage. Warm, comfy cottage. In great part of the village - lovely stonework and villagey feel to the place but easy drive to the town centre for the usual shops etc. Very quiet. Owners friendly."
    - Charlotte B, June 2016
"We stayed here for a week in June 2016. The cottage is ideally located for exploring the Peak District, most places are within 40-60 minute drive max. The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable for 2 adults. The kitchen is well equipped, and the shower room is very nice with a roomy corner shower. The village is quiet, the only noise at night is from the stream running at the end of the garden. Our only frustration was that the free view remote was slow to respond - hardly a big issue! Parking is ok, we found a space almost opposite the cottage every night. The walk from the cottage to the car was nice too as you have to cross the stream. The owners are welcoming, and once they have shown you round leave you to it. We were happy with this as the last thing we wanted was to feel 'checked up on'. That said, they are only at the end of the garden if needed. All in all, I would definitely recommend this cottage."
    - Mrs Kusionowicz, August 2016
"Great base for exploring the area. Very cosy and comfortable. Three pubs on doorstep which also do good food. Plenty more in town which is in walking distance. Beautiful part of the country, especially for walking."
    Miss Turnbull

"We liked the location, the friendly welcome, the local amenities."
    Mrs Christine Horner, London,
"The cosy cottage was very easy to live in. The heating and hot water were very efficient and the new shower was excellent. It was nice to have a small patio area for our sole use. The fresh eggs from the chickens were an added bonus. Old Glossop is a superb location with four pubs within easy walking distance. The nearest had live music on two nights of the week that we stayed. Most importantly there are many walks in the Dark Peak in close proximity. We would definitely return as the owners were friendly and accommodating. "
    Mrs Linda Cripps, Reading, Berkshire

Mr Scott, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire
"Quiet, secluded, comfortable and peaceful, just what we wanted. 3 pubs within 5 minutes walk where we spent the odd hour sitting in the glorious sunshine, drinking cold drinks. Lovely park also 5 minutes walk away, all dog friendly. Good place to wind down."
    Dr Voisey, Cardiff, Caerdydd
"Lovely cottage in an excellent location. The cottage had a lovely quaint feel to it, which was very relaxing. There are a number of supermarkets nearby that were ideal for anyone really wanting to do self catering. It's not too far to the train station. A few minutes walk in the opposite direction and you're in the Peak District National Park."

    Mrs Walker, Manchester, Greater Manchester
