Take a short journey east to Chapel-en-le-Frith, known as the capital of the Peak District and home to a popular golf club and a cobbled marketplace, to stop off for lunch before walking, climbing or caving in the National Park. Nearby attractions include Dark Peak for unspoilt moorlands, Speedwell Cavern for boat tours of 18th-century lead-mining caverns, and Blue John Cavern to discover illuminated limestone cave all of which can be found in Castleton. Situated in the Western end of the Hope Valley, Castleton has much to offer with its deep caves ready to explore, the historic ruins on Peveril Castle and scenic walks up the imposing mountain peak of Mam Tor which offers incredible panoramic valley views at its top. LadyBower Reservoir offers both easy and challenging trails for all abilities, making it a great place for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Eccles Pike, Jacob's Ladder, Grindslow Knoll, and Kinder Scout are a few other scenic trails nearby. New Mills sits just north of Whaley Bridge, another picturesque town for riverside walks, shops, parks and play areas, whilst Buxton in the south has an abundance of cultural and historic delights; discover fascinating archaeology at Buxton Museum & Art Gallery, catch a performance at the stunning Buxton Opera House or pack a picnic and hike up to Solomon’s Temple. Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park is a must-visit whilst you're in the area for tours of underground caves and wooded trails to escape the hustle and bustle. Whaley Bridge, often known as the Gateway to the Goyt Valley, is a charming tiny village in the High Peak. Whaley Bridge town centre is only a short walk away after passing by the station, which has connections to Buxton and Manchester Piccadilly. Food and convenience stores are among the local businesses. When you don't feel like cooking, the town's pubs, restaurants, and takeaways are excellent choices. Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxton and the Blue John Cavern exhibit caves at Castleton are all within easy driving distance.
