The great outdoor splendours of the Peak District National Park is a very short drive or on your doorstep there are the shops, galleries and cafes, not forgetting the theatre with a full program of headline acts all year round. If you are in the mood for a bit of pampering you're in for a treat as the university has created a beauty and wellness spa which receives rave reviews and is just two minutes' walk away. Buxton is well-placed for touring Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park, with a selection of pubs, restaurants and cafés to choose from, as well as attractions such as the limestone cave network of Poole's Cavern, Buxton Museum & Art Gallery and the zip wire course through the treetops at Go Ape Buxton. Walkers can stroll along the Pavilion Gardens, enjoying an afternoon picnic in the sunshine, while the magnificent Peak District National Park offers plenty of walking and cycling trails through magnificent countryside. t was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House.
