Fully renovated in 2025, The Loft and The Cowshed offer cosy, characterful accommodation ideal for couples and solo travellers keen to explore this stunning part of the country. The building itself is steeped in history, dating back to at least the 18th century, with some accounts suggesting it could be over 400 years old.

The Loft, located on the first floor, is a light-filled studio featuring a vaulted, beamed ceiling and Velux windows. A king-size bed, stable door, and a small sitting-out area make this a perfect retreat, with sweeping views across the hills. The Cowshed is on the ground floor and retains its rustic charm with an exposed stone wall and an original stone stall divider cleverly repurposed into the design. It offers a comfortable double bed and a small outdoor space to relax after a day in the hills. Both apartments benefit from private parking and are pet-friendly, so your four-legged companions are welcome too. Perfect for lovers of the outdoors, there’s a hot and cold outdoor hose for rinsing boots, bikes, and dogs, along with a dedicated drying room for wet weather gear.

Earl Sterndale is surrounded by dramatic landscapes and walking routes, including the iconic Parkhouse and Chrome Hill directly from the doorstep. Nearby Longnor (2 miles) offers two food-serving pubs and a traditional fish and chip shop, while the elegant spa town of Buxton, the market town of Bakewell, and the magnificent Chatsworth House are all within easy reach. Such a cozy, well thought out and comfortable space - cannot wait to come back! The Cowshed had everything we needed (down to cooking foil/baking paper/cling film). Everything is still brand new and really felt like it - gutted I didn’t have a pen to write in the guest book! The check in/out was super smooth, GREAT WiFi at the property and good water pressure (it matters as I have thick hair). We chose this location as THE most perfect place to start a 10mile hike through Parkhouse and Chrome Hills, just down the road from The Roaches on one side and Bakewell on the other side. Plenty of pubs around (ideally driving distance, or one 1.4mile walk - which we did walk) and an Aldi about 10mins drive. Thank you so much again, and thank you for the goodies and even treats/poop bags for the dog!!! Really thought of everything :)
