Guests say

Piggery Place is a well-received cottage offering comfort, accessibility, and a warm welcome. Guests appreciate its cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and suitability for the less mobile. Its farm setting provides a unique experience, though some note proximity to a busy road. The location is convenient for exploring the Peak District, with many attractions within a short drive.

The cottage is consistently described as spotlessly clean, with many guests highlighting its cleanliness. One review mentioned a living room carpet needing a steam clean, but this seems an isolated comment amidst overall high praise for cleanliness.

The location is praised for its access to local attractions and the beauty of the Peak District. However, some guests noted the proximity to a noisy road and farmyard smells, which impacted the tranquillity for a few visitors.

Many reviews commend the comfort of the beds and the cosy nature of the cottage. The property is also appreciated for its accessibility features, making it comfortable for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, especially for those with disabilities. Criticisms include the lack of a dryer and some confusion over pet policies. The presence of a washer, well-equipped kitchen, and internet are positives, though there were issues with Wi-Fi and a lack of instructions for appliances.

While guests mention a warm welcome and the provision of a cot and highchair, there is no consistent mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate a level of thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

About this property

This lovely barn conversion rests on the owner's farm in the hamlet of Newhaven, near the village of Hartington; home to old curiosity shops, traditional pubs and a splendid market square. Ideal for Chatsworth House. Suited for couples or a small family, Piggery Place is a delightful cottage to return to, comprising a comfortable open-plan living area, divided between a lounge, well-equipped kitchen, and a dining area for four people. Sit back with your favourite DVD on play, enjoying the warmth of the woodburning stove. A collection of bedrooms rest beyond, so you can snuggle up after a long day, either in the double or twin room, each carrying a home away from home feel, with wardrobes, and a neutral overtone. A wet room completes the interior, providing adapted facilities for those less mobile guests. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 996810, together they can sleep up to six people.

The former Hartington railway station, about a mile and half from the village itself, is now a picnic area and the converted track is known as the Tissington Trail, popular with both walkers and cyclists. Hartington is also a good starting point for walking along Beresford Dale, a beautiful place with its curiously formed cliffs and rocks.

In arriving at the property the key was ready for us, and on entering the piggery we found it to be in a high standard of cleanliness, the cottage was as described on the website and well equipped with everything you would need for your stay. The bedrooms had plenty of storage and the beds were very comfortable. Sue came to see everything was ok and that we were settling in ok and sorted a small problem with the heating (water pressure had dropped - thanks Sue) and the cottage was soon warm and cosy. All the appliances worked well with no problems. The cottage is on a working dairy farm, and the heard were in there winter quarters, so during the day you could hear them chatting away, although once your inside the cottage, you could not really hear them, although the chatting away from the heard did stop during the evening, there is a farm smell……. Well it is in a farm and again you don’t really notice it in the cottage. The farm is also on a bust road which can be a little noisy during the day with the quarry truck going up and down, but again from about 2000hrs the noise stopped with only the odd car using the road. If turning into the cottage from the left, it is a really tight turn (basically doing a u turn) so you need to go on the opposite side of the road to turn in. There is no negative comments I can make about the cottage it was totally as described and what I expected. I definitely will be booking again, and would highly recommend the piggery. Thankyou so much Sue for letting us stay in your cost and lovely cottage as a base for our Holliday it was superb. X Glen and Maggie

It was very comfortable, clean and cosy. Great location for going on days out and the kids loved staying on a real farm.

The owner Sue is friendly and on hand if you need her. The cottage is warm and cosy. It has everything you can think of in the kitchen. Like home from home. The beds are really comfortable Great location, in the countryside with access to many villages and towns. We will definitely return.
