It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House.

Ii is close to the town centre and to restaurants so we did not need to use the car in the evenings. The property was clean and had all the equipment we needed. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. The welcome pack was great as we arrived well after the shops had closed and it was good not to have to go out early the next day to get milk, tea, etc. No negative points, except we wished we had been able to stay longer!

The beds and sofas were very comfortable! Which was obviously a huge bonus, as a lot of the time these are the things that let a place down. It was great the have a washing machine and airer to use. If we were to come to Buxton again we would consider staying here again. It’s close to all amenities and the welcome pack was wonderful, thank you! I would just like to mention that the cooker needs some TLC. My husband tried to clean out the air vent in the oven just above the door opening, it doesn’t seem to stop circulating and was gunked up with dust, dirt and grime and in need of a good clean. Also the shower & screen was also in need of a good clean around the seals of the shower controls etc. Sorry to end on negativity but feel it’s good for the owners to know.

The flat was lovely and warm and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was spotless and was well equipped and the bathroom was equally clean. John seemed very friendly and helpful when I queried one or two minor things with him. Two suggestions for improvements: 1) It would be helpful to have a clothes airer in the house for any wet clothes when visitors come back from walking in poor weather. 2) Although the stairway to the flat is very well lit, the lighting at the front of the house is very poor so it would be good to have a security light or something at the front to prevent accidents.
