The picturesque gritstone village of Birchover is believed to once have been used by Druids as a ceremonial worship site. There’s a rock formation called Rowtor Rocks, with caves and carvings, prehistoric monuments and stone circles, including The Nine Ladies overlooking the village on Stanton Moor (where you can also find the Cork Stone). At Robin Hood's Stride and Cratcliffe Tor, a medieval hermit's cave can also be explored. Just five miles away, the popular town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, has been attracting visitors to the area since the spa was developed in the late 17th century. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent, the Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham. In the opposite direction is the market town of Bakewell, and a little further beyond lies Chatsworth House and Park. It was beautifully presented and exceptionally clean. We loved the open plan kitchen and sitting room - so light and airy with superb views. The bedrooms were spacious, the beds very comfortable and the bathrooms nice and modern. As a party of 6 friends it worked perfectly with us each having our own bed with the two ground floor beds having been split into twins, the mezzanine sofa bed and the upstairs one. The location was great, surrounded by fabulous countryside and great walks.

Everything we needed was there. Spotlessly clean. Communication from the hosts was very prompt.
