The garden is steep and has steps.. This charming detached holiday cottage dates back to the 1600s, and is set in the heart of the Peak District village of Bonsall. The property has been carefully furnished and co-ordinated throughout with a well-equipped kitchen, although guests may want to take advantage of some of the great places to eat including the two traditional village pubs within walking distance or in Cromford and Matlock just a short drive away. Take a step out to the rear garden, which boasts three tiers, and enjoy the wonderful views. There is also a summer house and patio area, which is perfect for guests who want to enjoy a spot of alfresco dining in the sunshine.
The traditional conservation village of Bonsall is situated in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, 4 miles from Matlock. Named in the Domesday Book, with a history dating back to Roman times, this former lead mining and textile producing village is renowned for the World Hen Racing Championshipâs held on the first Saturday in August.
This part of Derbyshire has a rich heritage, with nearby Cromford being home to Arkwright Mills and Crich, playing host to Crich Tramway Village. Matlock Bath is just a short drive away and is the base for the cable car leading to the Heights of Abraham, a 60-acre hilltop country park. Walkers and mountain bikers will delight in the magnificent trails that abound in this part of the Peak District, whilst watersport enthusiasts are well-served by Carsington Water, which is just 7 miles away. Poppy Cottage is a lovely cottage with lots of nice features namely a roomy sized lounge dining area with a huge fireplace. There is also a large bathroom with a good sized shower and massive bath. The main bedroom has a king sized comfy bed. The kitchen area could do with a new fridge and freezer but is very well equipped with everything you need. The entrance hall is ideal for boots, shoes, coats, etc and all the dog items plus there is even a dog bed supplied.The WiFi 4/5G signal is very poor and the supplied WiFi is slow and is impractical to use. The old flat screen TV is basic with no catch-up. The parking area is a bonus but we could just fit our estate car on the driveway. It shouldn't cause any problem for a hatchback size vehicle etcPoppy Cottage is lovely and warm and plenty of hot water.We particularly liked the extras that the owners supplied like, washing up liquid, bubble bath, hand soap, tea towels, fresh scones and milk on arrival. The cottage is dog friendly with treats for them too but please note they are not allowed upstairs.
