Guests frequently praise the apartment's prime location, cleanliness, and spaciousness. The property is well-equipped and comfortable, with thoughtful touches like milk and biscuits. While some minor maintenance issues and the lack of WiFi are noted, the overall experience is highly regarded, with many guests returning for multiple stays.
The apartment is generally described as clean and well-maintained, with only a few mentions of minor issues such as cobwebs and dust in less accessible areas. The shower's condition was noted by one guest, suggesting room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to the town centre, public transport, and local amenities. The proximity to a park and the ease of exploring Matlock on foot are appreciated, despite some traffic noise mentioned by a few guests.
The apartment is generally found to be comfortable and spacious. However, some guests noted issues with the second bed's suitability for adults and the leatherette furniture being uncomfortable in warm weather.
Facilities are well-regarded, with the apartment being well-equipped for most needs. Some guests missed a hairdryer and WiFi, and there were comments about minor maintenance issues like stiff locks and the need for updated shower seals.
While guests have mentioned thoughtful gestures such as the provision of milk and biscuits, there are not enough reviews explicitly commenting on consistent thoughtfulness or gifts to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such gestures are appreciated but not guaranteed.
An outstanding, first floor apartment just a short walk from the centre of Matlock, with views of the church and Riber Castle. 8 Tawney House has been individually styled by the current owners to create a first-class holiday home. The open plan living area is spacious, light and airy, with impressive mullioned windows to two sides, a modern well-equipped kitchen and views across the town to the old church. A delightful main bedroom with high ceiling and full-length mullioned window makes this ideal for a romantic break. On the edge of the Peak District National Park and just a short drive from Bakewell and the picturesque village of Ashover (Cardale in TV's Peak Practice), the apartment makes an ideal base from which to explore the region's attractions, including the majestic Chatsworth House and Carsington Water and sailing club. A holiday home of real quality and style!
The popular Peak District towns of Matlock and Matlock Bath have long been attracting visitors to the area. Since the Spa was developed in the late 17th Century, these pretty towns have been fashionable holiday spots and it isn't hard to see why. Offering a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, the Matlocks are set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and are home to the renowned attractions of Riber Castle, Gullivers Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Warm and very comfortable. This is the second time we have stayed at Tawney House, the first time 9 years ago!! Would certainly stay again, maybe not leave it for another 9 years!

Furniture/paintwork was looking a bit tired and could do with a spruce up. The blind was missing from the window in the living room and dining room chairs peeling and looking old and some of the paint on the walls chipped. There also really needs to be black out blinds or curtains in bedrooms as the pattern on the curtains means that light pours through even at night - not ideal if you like a dark room. We still gave our stay 4 stars though as we had a lovely break.
