About this property

Tucked away amidst the charm and delight of the Peak District National Park in the village of Birchover is this superb converted chapel dwelling, Andlestone. This wonderful retreat is positioned for a group of walkers looking to explore the multitude of walks among the rolling countryside, or is spacious enough for a family seeking a base to celebrate a special occasion. The interior enjoys a seamless blend of contemporary and character, with the original features complementing the carefully selected furnishings and all the quality appliances you will need during a week-long break. Enter through the imposing stone-built porch, where you can kick off your walking boots before relaxing into your evening. The quirky layout of the accommodation means that you will find three well-presented bedrooms resting on the ground floor, comprising a double bedroom and two twin bedrooms, each designed with a refreshing ambience and a flexible arrangement in mind. The ground floor is completed by a modern family bathroom, featuring a bath, a separate walk-in shower, basin and WC, as well as a shower room with walk-in shower, basin and WC. Venture up the staircase to enjoy sociable evenings with your loved ones gathered in the open-plan living room, with soaring arched beams, where the original chapel windows flood the space with natural light. To the rear of the space is a well-equipped kitchen, where the designated chef of the group will find everything to fulfill your culinary needs to create your own delicious evening meals. Joining here is the sitting area, where plush sofas await you after an action-packed day to tune into the Smart TV and unwind. If you can tear yourself away from the idyllic base, two pubs await you just a stone’s throw away, and a choice of pubs serving food can be found within Winster if you don’t feel like cooking one evening. Find a multitude of walks from the doorstep of the cottage, including the Nine Ladies stone circle walk and the Limestone Way. Alternatively, brush up on the local history by discovering Chatsworth House or spending some time within the market town of Bakewell. Andlestone is a delightful base for exploring the countryside setting of the Peak District National Park.

Winster is a small village resting within the Peak District National Park, just 4.5 miles away from Matlock. Here, you will find a 17th-century market house at its centre, many 17th and 18th-century houses and is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village you will find a shop and two pubs serving beer.

Good facilities and well maintained. Could be warmer downstairs.

Everything we needed. Had a great holiday. Only thing missing was a teapot.

  • Katherine

6 of us stayed for the weekend and had a lovely time. Cottage very comfortable and 2 village pubs in walking distance, one of which we had a lovely meal at. Also plenty of walking from the doorstep. One very minor point / observation was only exact number of wine glasses and no Prosecco glasses.
