Ideal for family and friends, this lovely retreat provides an excellent base for touring and exploring the Peak District National Park and visiting nearby Haddon Hall and Alton Towers. A conservation village, Winster is in the Peak District National Park and makes a charming base for a holiday. It has a 17th Century market house at its centre, and on the three main streets there are many three storey 18th Century houses. Winding through the village are little alleyways, known to the locals as ginnels, which are well worth exploring. Winster has many traditions, Morris Dancers, the Wakes festivities in June, and the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, making this sleepy little village far more vibrant and exciting than many similar sized locations. Walkers and cyclists are well placed for the Tissington Trail and The Limestone way and amenities in the village include a general store, post office and two pubs that serve local food and ales. More shops and facilities can be found in nearby Bakewell and Matlock.

We were able to make full use of all the facilities available, and were within easy reach of local areas of interest. Friendly owners, and a welcoming, warm feel to the cottages when we arrived. Thank you.

Beds were good and the kitchen had plenty of space and everything you need. The fridge was a little small for a group of 6. Any problems or questions were addressed by the owners including supplying us with a few bits for cokking that we forgot to bring with us. The description is accurate but I think we found that for our group of 4 adults and 2 children it didn't work so well for us. Having the en suite off the twin room used by the children left 4 adults using the main bathroom. The lounge area was also a bit small for us. It is worth considering the needs of your group before booking. The main frustration was the very poor internet. The signal dropped in and out, cutting off transactions such as paying for tickets for attractions in advance. In the end we had to stop using it and rely on our phones. I suspect this is a symptom of the remote location but if this is an important issue for you then this may not be the right lcoation for you. The cottage is quite remote and the nearest shops and conveniences are a short drive away. All in all a plesant cottage in a pleasant location. Read the description carefully and consider if the unusual layout is for you.
