About this property

A delightful stone-built cottage situated in the popular village of Eyam in the Peak District. This property offers high-quality accommodation featuring vaulted ceilings and contemporary fixtures and fittings, perfectly suited to a couple looking for a peaceful break in the Peak District. The ground floor of the property consists of an open-plan living space with a modern, fully appointed kitchen, dining area and lounge, all of which is bright and airy, yet still retains a cosy feeling. Through a door there is a separate utility area with a WC, wash basin, washer-dryer, and hanging/drying space for wet gear. Upstairs is a spacious king size bedroom with an impressive vaulted ceiling and views of the garden. The beautifully decorated bedroom offers a soothing space for relaxing after a day's hiking, especially coupled with the large shower in the adjoining en-suite. Outside there is an enclosed, walled garden with furniture that the property shares with the Owner. The cottage is in the centre of the village of Eyam, an atmospheric destination that is often described by visitors as 'a step back in time', its charming stone-built properties all feel as though they have remained undisturbed. Eyam Well Dressing and Carnival week takes place during August Bank Holiday week. This is a lovely time to be in the village with the two wells ‘dressed’, the bunting and lots of activities going on! The carnival concludes with a fantastic parade of floats, carnival queens and displays through the centre. Garden Cottage is in a prime location to appreciate all this but it does mean that things can get a little ‘boisterous’ on the final day as the celebrations continue into the night! Nearby are the picturesque market towns of Bakewell and Buxton, both offering a selection of boutique and high street shops, as well as a number of delicious eateries. Due to its location in the Peak District National Park, there are plenty of great walking and cycling opportunities in the surrounding area. Garden Cottage is the perfect destination for anyone looking for a break in the historic village of Eyam.

Eyam is one of the most untouched villages in the Peak District National Park, nestled at the foot of Sir William Hill, 800ft above sea level and is surrounded by the most delightful countryside. Historically the village is known as the famous 'plague village', as it went into voluntary quarantine when the plague arrived in a bale of cloth from London in 1665 and thus prevented the spread of the disease. There are many nice old houses in Eyam, and parts of the village have been kept as they looked several centuries ago, such as Eyam Hall, a beautiful 17th century manor house with delightful gardens, craft shops and tea rooms. Above the village lies Eyam Moor, a beautiful area for walking, with fantastic views across the Derwent Valley, with its many Bronze Age remains and monuments. Visit Bakewell (7 miles) a scenic market town which holds a livestock market every Monday and the home of the world famous Bakewell Pudding. Explore the mysterious caverns of Castleton, the elegant spa town of Buxton or enjoy the many stately homes on offer including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, to mention a few. With Alton Towers, Britain's premier theme park, only a short drive away, this is an ideal base for all the family.
