About this property

The Hill is a sympathetically restored 200-year old terraced, Grade II listed, former millworkers' cottage situated in the village of Cromford close to the Peak District National Park. The cottage combines simple Georgian style with modern comforts and is perfect for a couple wishing to explore the picturesque Peak District. Stoke up the woodburning stove on a chilly evening or admire the expansive views up the hill to the High Peak Trail. The more adventurous can be walking or cycling within minutes of leaving the cottage. For those with relaxation in mind, the warm throws and lovingly restored furnishings will help you to unwind. The hand-built kitchen provides all the cooking essentials as well as a table for dining. Characterful steep original stairs lead to the first floor where there is a comfortable bedroom. In the bathroom, there is a generous walk-in shower. Outside there is a small seating area with views, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee and planning the day ahead. Cromford is a must for those with an interest in industrial history. Set in the World Heritage Derwent Valley it was here that Richard Arkwright spun his way to fame and fortune. The cottage itself forms part of the original village, which is the world's first example of industrial housing. There's plenty to keep you entertained in the Mill Yard and canal, Cromford's historic heart. There's a Visitor Centre with interactive exhibits, cafes and shops. The village also offers a range of shops, pubs and other facilities. Away from the village, there is a broad range of attractions. Beautiful Chatsworth House and its stunning parkland is a short drive away. The Crich Tramway Museum is a fun way of exploring the history of transport, whilst the cable cars of the Heights of Abraham will offer you a whole new perspective over the area, known to the Victorians as Little Switzerland. Matlock, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Buxton are all close by with Dale Road in Matlock being an antique hunter’s paradise. You really are spoilt for choice whenever you chose to stay.

Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford lies just 1 mile from the vibrant spa town of Matlock Bath, 3 miles from Matlock. Famous for its connections with the cotton trade, Cromford is often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, today the village offers a selection of pubs and shops, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill, a world heritage site.
