    About this property

An outstanding, detached cottage with outdoor hot tub offering stunning views of Thorpe Cloud, in the village of Thorpe. From the beautiful garden, to the quality fixtures and fittings, this property is perfect for a romantic holiday or family break. Boasting fabulous oak flooring, a spacious kitchen, delightful conservatory and stylish bedrooms, guests also enjoy exclusive use of the outdoor hot tub. There are beautiful hiking routes within walking distance, taking in the famous stepping stones of the River Dove, and the 15th century tea room at Ilam. With the market town of Ashbourne, the quaint villages of Ilam, Longnor and Hartington, and the Tissington Trail nearby, The Rest makes a wonderful base for enjoying the Derbyshire Dales!

Where the River Dove and the River Manifold meet is where the charming village of Thorpe can be found. The village is under the auspicious gaze of Thorpe Cloud, a 1000-foot limestone hill at the entrance to Dovedale. The arrival of the railway heralded the tourist boom and today, Dovedale continues to be a popular spot for many visitors. Thorpe has two country house hotels and a public house. For a wider range of amenities, the busy market town of Ashbourne is only four miles away. The town still has many beautiful Georgian buildings and charming cobbled alleyways, wending through the town and just waiting to be explored. There are many activities in the area and Thorpe makes a fabulous base to discover this lovely region.

"As some of the other reviews say, it is a little difficult to find. The instructions list the Dog and Partidge pub as a place to look out for on the journey, this is now called The Old Dog. The caretaker was extremely helpful in the run up to our arrival. The house was beautiful and had everything we needed for the week. The hot tub was a lovely addition. We will definitely return next time we holiday in this part of the country."

The welcome was an appreciated treat and nice personal touch. The cottage was so well equipped with everything you could think of, including cleaning products. The cottage was stunning and set in the superb backdrop of Thorpe Cloud. It was in a good touring base to lots of other villages or towns/cities, and 20 minutes from Alton Towers, excellent to keep teenagers age 13 and 16 entertained, normally not easy! It had something for everyone. We have been to Centre Parcs for the last 4 years in a row before this holiday so was unsure if it would tick all our boxes but it did! Had a wonderful week's holiday, and would definitely go back again!"

"We stayed here with friends and their 7-month old baby during October half-term and could not fault this gem of a cottage. Everything was in excellent condition, clean and the kitchen was well-equipped. Sadly my husband hurt his back at the beginning of the week and therefore spent a lot of time on his back - but the large flat-screen TV with DVDs, choice of games and comfortable sofa eased his suffering! The owner personally welcomed us and really made us feel at home. Location was excellent - especially if you like walking."
