Snaptrip says

Gun End Cottage is consistently praised for its comfort, cleanliness, and beautiful location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, the ample space, and the picturesque garden. The property's peaceful setting and proximity to local attractions make it a popular choice for families and groups seeking a rural retreat in the Peak District.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviewers frequently mention the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as spotless and well-presented, which indicates a high standard of cleanliness maintained at the property.

The location is highly regarded for its peacefulness, beautiful countryside views, and proximity to walking routes and local attractions, making it an ideal base for exploring the Peak District.

Comfort is a strong point, with guests finding the cottage warm, welcoming, and suitable for families, including young children. The presence of a conservatory and spacious rooms adds to the overall comfort.

The cottage is well-equipped with cooking utensils and entertainment options, though there are minor comments about the quality of some kitchenware and the absence of Wi-Fi, which prevents a perfect score.

While guests express gratitude for the well-equipped cottage and mention the provision of toys and Christmas decorations, there is no consistent mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

About this property

This charming Peak District cottage, featured on Homes Under The Hammer, is located on a quiet lane in the hamlet of Swythamley, 5 miles from Leek. Constructed in 1904, this wonderful Peak District cottage offers four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully-equipped fitted kitchen and a sitting room with a lovely open fire. Expertly renovated, the cottage retains some of the original features including leaded windows and tiled floors. There is a sun room and a large garden with lovely views of the Staffordshire countryside. The full extent of the cottage's transformation was featured in the popular TV series Homes Under The Hammer. This Peak District cottage is an easy drive from the market towns of Leek and Ashbourne, while Alton Towers is 40 minutes away. An excellent base for making the most of the area, and a welcoming Peak District cottage to return to time and again.

The farming community of Swythamley sits close to the River Dane, on the Staffordshire side of the river yet still in the beautiful area know as The Peak District. Local Swythamley Hall, originally a hunting lodge belonging to Abbey of Dieulacres, stands in fine parkland. The area has much historic significance – close by is Gun Hill, where Cromwell is believed to have located his canon aimed at the town of Leek. On the edge above Swythamley there is a famous landmark - the Hanging Stone, with a fine view over the surrounding countryside. There is fine walking and climbing on The Roaches, and many lovely cycle trails in the area. Alton Towers, Leek, Buxton and Ashbourne are all within easy reach.

Kitchen was well equipped/, good utility area for walkers and bikers. Downstairs washroom ideal, great drawing fire in the cosy lounge. Lovely south facing garden which would be a sun trap in summer.

Clean, comfortable and warm in mid February. There was plenty of space and hot water for our family of 8 with an amazing array of useful kitchen facilities. Very helpful owners who instantly replied to text messages with help and kindness. If it were in the summer we would have found the garden somewhat small for 3 boys (ages 9-12), however in wet February weather we were unableto venture out into the grounds anyway.

A few toys were a surprise bonus that the children really enjoyed. So much to do nearby as well. Would definitely like to come again.
