    About this property

Ginny's Barn is a detached brick barn conversion, on the owner's mixed livestock and arable farm, at the edge of the small rural Nottinghamshire village of Askham. This well-equipped, spacious single-storey cottage offers open plan living areas, with traditional country furnishings, natural slate flooring with underfloor heating, exposed oak cross beams and a stable-style door. There is a grassed area to the front of the property, from where views of the orchard can be seen. Also the three towers of Lincoln Cathedral can be seen on the horizon from the bedroom window and garden. A short walk into the village finds the local public house, also serving meals. Historic Lincoln offers a vibrant and contemporary day out with plenty of things to keep everyone busy. There is plenty of history on offer with its medieval cathedral and a copy of the Magna Carta housed at the castle. Why not walk the castle walls and take in the views across the city? The National Nature Reserve of Sherwood Forest is a short drive away and was once part of a royal hunting forest. The area now covers 450 acres with plenty of walking and cycling routes, and includes some ancient trees, some of which are over 500 years old. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 925804, together they sleep 4.

Askham is a small rural Nottinghamshire village just off the A57 and close to the A1. The village has a pub. Sherwood Forest is just 11 miles away, with the Robin Hood visitors centre providing wonderful woodland walks including to the renowned Major Oak tree, with picnic areas also available. The National Trust's Clumber Park has 3,800 acres of spectacular scenery where you can walk or cycle, gardens, and a lake with 200 species of birds. The Wetlands Waterfowl Reserve is seven miles away with 32 acres of fishing lakes and woodland, along with an exotic birds sanctuary and animals. The area offers galleries and museums, while the Roman city of Lincoln, 17 miles away, has a cathedral and castle, and historic Newark, 15 miles away, has two castles, frequent antiques fairs, a fine Georgian market square and a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.

" “The cottage is on a farm and within walking distance of Askam village. A very comfortable cottage and a lovely location.” "
    Mrs Butterworth ‐ 1 May 2021
" The hosts were very friendly without being intrusive and were very informative about the surrounding areas. We found cycling around the local areas easily as well as in Clumber Park which is a local national trust estate. The views around the local areas were stunning. The bed was very very comfy. Even though this is a working farm we didn’t hear any loud farm vehicles and the area around the barn was very clean. "

" Just stayed here for a week and was sorry to leave. Very relaxing and remote. Well equipped barn conversion although not a lot of storage for food. Very clean and all restrictions adhered to regarding Covid 19. The owners are fantastic and Sue has a great knowledge of the local walks. Lovely seeing all the piglets, donkey and sheep. Sarah, Sue and Roger made us feel very welcome and even supplied local fruit and veg. They went above and beyond with some beautiful flowers for our anniversary. The local pub "The Duke William" does great food and so does The Queen Hotel (2 mile walk to East Markham) however check the opening times so you are not disappointed. Also ring and book due to the restriction of Covid 19. Retford is also worth visiting, the park and canal is lovely. "

" A beautiful barn out of the way of everyone and everything apart from the natural surroundings. We really enjoyed our time here. The owners are fantastic and made us feel very welcome even supplying local fruit and veg and went beyond and above with a lovely gift of flowers on our anniversary. Sue has great local knowledge of walks of the area. We would highly recommend Ginny's Barn for a lovely stay. The local pub The Duke William is very welcoming with local ales and ciders together with great food especially the Sunday roast. A short 2 mile walk away to East Markham is another lovely village pub called The Queen's Hotel which also serves fantastic food. Both establishments took the cleanliness and restriction surrounding Covid 19 seriously. The overall area of Askham is lovely to walk together with the surrounding areas of East/West Markham and Retford. Lincoln is worth a visit also although we did not hang around too long due to the current situation with Covid 19. "

"w, e were rather disappointed to find the village pub was closed as no where else to eat in the village and had to use car every day as nothing within walking distance if we had known this we would have chosen a different location, weather was really bad so came home tuesday ( no one can predict the english weather) but could not fault the cottage or owners both really nice. Mrs J. Oxley ps i think untill pub is open you should let people know of its closure as can cause disapiontment"
