"A lovely welcome of scones, eggs, bread, jam, wine and milk. Tea and coffee also left to use along with dog beds, blankets and biscuits. The beautifully enclosed garden is just great for the dogs enabling you to enjoy inside while they enjoy outside. A lovely large bath is there to be enjoyed along with the lovely log burner to settle in front of afterwards. We got snowed in and enjoyed the wonderful care and hospitality of the local farmers who cared enough to pop round and share their freezer contents. It is wonderfully out of the way but Falstone is only 3 miles one way and Bellingham 5 miles the other - so easily popped to for supplies - even on foot in the snow. We will defilintely be going to this cottage again - in fact I think I could llive there. The owners very kindly towed us out on our day of departure after we had the biggest snowfall since 2010 while we were there. A lovely relaxing break!"

"The fresh bread, scones, eggs, butter and wine waiting for us, dog biscuits, dog towels and a bed waiting for our dog. The shed was well stocked with fuel for the fire and it was obvious that lots of time and effort is spent with the upkeep and cleanliness of the cottage. A lovely, peaceful week which we needed to re-charge our batteries. Thank you."

"It all started with the welcoming fire blazing when we arrived. The next lovely surprise was the fresh scones, jam, bread and wine that greeted us in the kitchen and the doggy welcome pack etc in the back hall. The cottage is set in the most beautiful location, lots of walks, wildlife (a variety of birds and a stoat visited us every day in the garden). Within easy travelling distance of the Scottish border. We were treated to some fabulous sunsets at Kielder Water and there are some great waterfall walks nearby too. Old Hall Cottage is definitely a place we will visit again."

    - Mrs Bell, October 2016
"2nd visit to this cottage. Perfect in every way."
    - stellajnr, October 2014
"Excellent stay at this wonderful cottage. From the log burners to the fantastic garden for night photography of the stars. The sofas comfy for falling into after a day of site seeing. Peaceful and quiet internet excellent. Everything that was needed was there. Would stay again. Two of us stayed, but could comfortably accommadate 5. Although we took no pets there was no sign or smell that would make you think any animals has stayed there. If you do book and stay here...... Take some extra bird feed.... The feeders in the garden are amazing to stand and watch the birds feeding..... But they are very greedy and needed topping up daily, either that or they immediately had us pegged as a soft touch."
    - Gina P, July 2015
"My husband and I stayed at this beautiful cottage with our dog in June, and found it to be clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need (and more) supplied. On arrival we were delighted to find a lovely goody pack for us and Willow, which was a great treat after a long drive. Very helpful too was the welcome pack booklet, full of clear detail on the where and how of appliances etc in the cottage. The cottage itself is in a wonderfully rural location and kept/ furnished to a high standard; very quiet and relaxing, which is just what we want from a holiday home. All you can hear at night are the sheep. All in all, a proper home from home with very comfortable furniture - perfect for relaxing in the evening and for a great night's sleep. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery, cutlery and all the utensils needed to cope with the sort of cooking we do on holiday. The barbecue was put to use on nice evenings too. As the cottage is within the area of the dark sky reserve, the provision of a telescope is a nice touch. If that is what attracts you to the area I recommend not visiting at midsummer, as it barely seemed to get dark most nights. Our mistake - nothing to do with the property. I can't really find anything negative to say about Old Hall Cottage! One of the highlights of our holiday was the wildlife that visited the garden, where bird feeders are hung. Top-ups are available to buy and we did this on a few occasions as the pleasure gained from watching the birds made it well worth it. My husband now knows a few more species than he did, and was chuffed to have spotted the very brief visit from a woodpecker. Several times a mouse came to have a nibble on the peanuts. On the last day we even saw a stoat darting about on the garden wall. If you want the bright lights, this cottage is not for you. If you want a rural retreat in beautiful unspoiled countryside, go for it. We certainly hope to return to view the dark sky at some time in the future."
    - Mr Macmillan, November 2015
"Another great stay in this fantastic cottage. Everything catered for and the cottage was lovely and warm when we turned up, the log burner was already up and running. Thanks again to the very friendly owners."
    - Mrs Foster, January 2016
"Old Hall Cottage is a fantastic property in a beautiful location. Fantastic wood burner and comfy beds. Particularly good for bird watchers and star gazers. Definitely would recommend this property if you want some relaxation."
    - Sara F, January 2016
"Just returned from a short stay at this beautiful cottage with my girlfriends. Ideally situated for those of us who love peace and quiet. Thanks for the welcome pack including wine, bread, scones and jam - all delicious and much appreciated. The property is very well furnished and the beds are so comfortable a good night's sleep was had by all. Highlights are the wonderful wood burning stove in the living room, the variety of birds that visit the feeding stations in the back garden (be prepared to top the feeders up I've never known such greedy birds!) and the amazing display of stars in the dark skies The cottage provides a telescope! Although the weather was very windy and we had snow we managed a walk across the kielder reservoir dam before returning to hot baths and a good afternoon playing cards and listening to music in the cosy living g room A fantastic cottage in wonderful location I hope to return soon"
    - Mr Gardener, March 2016
"Old Hall Cottage is a wonderful cottage, in a lovely location as a place to 'retreat' to in itself or as a base for touring around the Kielder/ Northumberland area. Such a peaceful spot. Really well equipped, you're made to feel special and it is very much a home away from home. Will definitely go back and would recommend to others."
    - Ms Kanfer Clarke, August 2016
"We booked, purely based on the online representation of the cottage. It was stunning, both the setting and environment around it as well as the inside. It offered everything that had been promised and more, the owners provided a range of little touches that just made us feel so incredibly welcome and they didn't just permit dogs on the property, they made sure that we felt our dogs were as welcome as us. The information on site was perfect and helped us shape our week. It was an all-round outstanding holiday."
    - Mr Brazier, October 2016
"A lovely cottage with some very special local walking. The birds in the garden kept us amused for hours. if you like star gazing then this is the place for you. Peace & quiet second to none. Not much else to say really, loved it !"
    - Mrs Taylor, October 2016
"A car is definitely required for this cottage as the nearest facilities are 7 miles away but if you want to get away from it all this is the perfect place. The cottage was so comfortable and cosy we were quite happy to spend most of our time there plus a few walks with our dog. The owners have made every effort to welcome you by providing substantial goodies on arrival even for our dog. We would definitely stay again."
    PaulBellwood
"Gorgeous, totally private, cottage in a secluded but not too remote location. Everything that you need is provided. A lot of love and care has clearly been put into it by Colin and Helen, the owners. Great array of wild life there, virtually every type of garden bird you could name visit the feeders at the back, including a pair of great spotted woodpeckers and a stoat who pops up now and then at the back. A barn owl in the late evening plus several bats. A pay phone is provided, which is a valuable bonus when there's no cell coverage (as invariably there isn't wherever we go!). We were lucky with the weather so only used the living room burner on our last two nights. It is by far the best and easiest to light and use burner that we've ever had, and we've had loads. I'd love to come back when it's cold so that we can put both on! The best "welcome pack" we've ever had. You don't need to do any shopping before you arrive. Finally, re dog. A lot of cottages state "enclosed garden" and when you arrive it's not exactly enclosed for a dog. This one really is secure. We could relax and let our dog wander around the garden, which makes a huge difference. 100% recommended."

"The cottage was warm when we arrived and looked very welcoming. The cottage is very well-equipped and comfortable and even though the torrential rain wasn't ideal holiday weather, we felt we were in a home away from home and were cosy and relaxed indoors. We especially loved watching the birds outside the kitchen window - a great distraction from the tedium of washing up. Overall we were very pleased with the presentation and facilities of the cottage, and would certainly stay there again."

An abundance of garden birds and other wildlife on the doorstep of the beauty of Northumberland. Would love to stay again!"
