A little further afield, the intrepid explorer can discover the delights of the Heritage Coast including Alnwick with its famous castle and gardens, Holy Island, Berwick and Cragside at Rothbury. With the Pennine Way and other great cycle routes and Bridleways running nearby, it's easy to enjoy this stunning scenery, which boasts dramatic castles, surging rivers and beautiful forests. Those interested in the country's history are sure to enjoy a visit to one of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall, only a mile north of the village, and with an ongoing dig on the site of Vindolanda, it's easy to get in touch with the nation's past. It had everything we needed for a weeks holiday. It was warm and cosy. The recliner sofa was great. It was good to put your feet up and relax after a day of walking the wall. There was an abundance of plug points throughout the apartment. Ideal for todays technology which need charging eg phones/ tablets. Even though we were in the town centre it was not overly noisy. Ideal position for all hadrians wall walks and shops alike. Perfect in every way. Will definitely return. Stella was very informative when contacted. We had no issues at all

We never did find the parking that was listed on the website but had no problem finding street parking or the free parking behind Sainsbury's. Everything was clean and comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with crockery and pots/pans. And the recliner couch was wonderful after a day of walking. We would definately return and recommend The Reiver's Retreat.
