The village of Cartmel is nearby and is famous for both its medieval priory and the L’Enclume restaurant. The village also has its own racecourse, interesting shops including the Cartmel village shop where speciality puddings can be purchased including the tasty sticky toffee pudding. Head further afield and uncover the delights of the Lake District National Park, with the attractive areas of Grizedale, Coniston Water and Hawkshead within easy reach. Head to the bustling seaside resort of Grange-over-Sands and explore its popular woodland and traffic free promenade or continue along the coast towards Humprey Head and marvel at the views over Morecambe Bay. Escape to Daffodil Cottage with your better half and box off the many wonders of Cumbria.

The village of Flookburgh, located on the borders of the great Lake District and close to the shores of Morecambe Bay, makes an excellent base from which to explore this fascinating and stunning region. It is believed that the name of the settlement is derived from the locally obtained fluke fish. Flookburgh, which is now home to cockle and shrimp fishermen, was originally a well-liked resting place for visitors coming from Lancaster across the dunes. The community has a pub, a grocery store, a pharmacy, a post office, and two eating establishments. A short walk from the settlement is lovely countryside, including Humphrey Head, views of the bay with its wading bird life, and Coniston's mountain range. The Cumbrian Coastal Way also passes close by. Historic Cartmel, with its lovely Priory, well-liked racecourse, antique and gift stores, bars and restaurants, including the Michelin Star-rated L'Enclume, is reachable in a few minutes by car or on a nice off-road stroll. The lovely Holker Hall house and gardens are just over a mile away, and just six miles to the north in Bigland you can go horseback riding. You can also visit the Edwardian resort of Grange, which has a variety of hotels, eateries, shops, a pedestrian promenade, ornamental gardens, and golf courses.
