Snaptrip says

Bakers Cottage is a charming and cosy property, praised for its cleanliness, welcoming touches, and prime location for exploring the Lake District and Dales. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and the quiet, peaceful setting. Some concerns were raised about the compact size, particularly the bathroom and steep stairs, as well as the tight parking space. However, the positive aspects such as the garden and the thoughtful welcome gifts contribute to a pleasant stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews noting it as spotless and well-presented. This consistent feedback suggests a very high standard of cleanliness maintained at the property.

The location is highly regarded for its accessibility to the Lake District, Dales, and local amenities in Penrith. The quiet area is appreciated, although some guests noted the parking can be tight for larger vehicles.

Comfort is well-received with mentions of a cosy setting, comfortable beds, and a log burner. Some guests found the cottage and bathroom size small, and the stairs steep, which slightly affected the comfort score.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and garden. However, some guests mentioned a lack of recycling facilities, basic amenities, and issues with WiFi and parking, which impacts the score.

Guests frequently mention the thoughtful welcome gifts, which add a personal touch to their stay. While these gifts are greatly appreciated, it's important to note that such extras are subject to change and not guaranteed.

About this property

Set in the village of Kirkby Thore, five miles from the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is this quaint, sandstone end-terrace cottage, set in a quiet backwater of the village, with a village shop and pub just a short walk away. Ideal for a relaxing break at any time of the year, this delightful cottage offers the opportunity to explore the quieter side of Cumbria. This charming property offers cosy and character accommodation, which has been tastefully decorated with beamed ceilings and in the sitting room there’s a fireplace housing a warming woodburning stove. Up on the first floor are two welcoming bedrooms and a small shower room, whilst downstairs a kitchen/diner completes the accommodation. Outside, there’s a secluded patio area with pretty flowering tubs, a perfect place to enjoy a relaxing drink at the end of the day. The village of Kirkby Thore lies next to the A66 and therefore a number of places can be easily reached. The pretty market town of Appleby is famous for its annual horse fair, but is equally charming at any time of the year with its quaint shops and tea rooms to enjoy, along with charming riverside walks along the banks of the River Eden. Within reach is the beautiful lakeside village of Pooley Bridge, which is set on the shores of Ullswater and is just a 20 minute drive away. This pretty village sits at the top of Ullswater from where the steamers depart to take you on a mesmerising cruise down the lake through Paterdale. The stunning Aira Force Falls are also in this scenic dale and make a great destination for a walk followed by a picnic. This cosy holiday home is perfect for couples or small families to explore this gentle area with great amenities on the doorstep.

Kirkby Thore is a small Cumbrian village situated within easy driving distance of both Appleby-in-Westmorland and Penrith. The village sits on the site of a Roman cavalry camp, and today offers a church, a shop with Post Office, a pub and a petrol station. The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway and every June the town plays host to a three hundred-year old Horse Fair. Also within reach is the bustling market town of Penrith, which has a number of specialist shops, sandstone buildings, pubs and restaurants, plus Ullswater and the Lake District National Park are nearby.

We still had a pleasant stay cottage was well equipped and comfortable in a good location

  • Monica

It was in a very convenient location. It was cold to start but the heating worked very well and was soon very cosy. In spite of its size the cottage was spacious enough for our needs.

The cottage was "compact", especially the upstairs. The central heating was effective in November time. There was a log burning fire, but not enough wood for one evening, extra wood was on offer at £6 a bag. The out of season price was competitive.
