Snaptrip says

Shepherds Rest is a cosy and well-furnished cottage in Appleby, praised for its convenient location, comfortable amenities, and welcoming touches. Guests appreciate the proximity to local shops and scenic walks, as well as the thoughtful welcome gifts. While some found the cottage a bit cramped and the decor dated, the majority enjoyed the homely atmosphere and the garden, despite it being separate from the property.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found Shepherds Rest to be clean and tidy upon arrival, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, a few guests mentioned issues with cleanliness, such as pet hair and a musty smell, suggesting room for improvement in this area.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its quiet yet central position in Appleby, with easy access to local amenities, river walks, and nearby attractions in the Lake District and Pennines. The convenience of parking and the town's charm are frequently mentioned.

Guests generally regard the cottage as comfortable, with a particularly cosy bed and well-equipped kitchen. However, some guests found the furniture to be excessive for the space and the bed too soft, which affected their overall comfort.

Facilities at Shepherds Rest are appreciated, especially the fast WiFi and the garden's summerhouse. Criticisms include the lack of storage space in the kitchen, the need for a stair gate for pets, and suggestions for a bread knife and freezer. Maintenance issues like squeaky beds and a broken freezer compartment were also noted.

The welcome gifts, including flowers, cake, and biscuits, are frequently mentioned and add a special touch to the guests' experience. It's important to note that while these gestures are warmly received, they are not guaranteed for every stay.

Wasn't very clean, there was a used stained dish cloth and no clean ones to use. The bed covers were all creased and crumbled and we'll worn. No toilet brush to clean the toilet, no hand wash either in the bathroom. We could of coped with all of that, if the garden had been next to the cottage. I appreciate it said separated from the house, but it was passed about 3 or 4 other gardens, right up the top, with 3 dogs this was no good for us, having to put leads on them every time, and at night time before bed, to take them up there with no lighting in the garden was very difficult. Sorry but we couldn't have stood a whole week of not being able to just open a door and let the dogs out.

Lovely garden area up some steep steps. Centrally located, close to pubs and shops with some fantastic walks from the doorstep. A stair gate would be helpful to keep dogs downstairs, we used the fireguard for this. We found a dirty sock under the chair in the bedroom, so maybe more attention when cleaning, however the rest of the cottage was clean and tidy. The mattress was very soft on the double bed. I would recommend this cottage for a couple or a family with one child. A mirror close to a socket would also be a helpful addition.
