We stayed at The Costins during the last week of September 2025. We had two adults, mother and adult daughter, one child, aged 3 years and a small dog in our party. The property is fairly well equipped and we had an enjoyable stay overall. The location is good, offering something for everyone, without having to travel too far. Asda is an 18 minute drive from the property but we preferred to shop in the locations we visited each day, using smaller independent shops. There is plenty of variety to choose from. There is lots of options for local walks and outdoor activities. Plenty to keep little ones entertained on rainy days, such as a wonderful soft play in Maryport leisure centre and the aquarium. There is a play park and football pitch over the road from the property, but the park could do with a revamp. Having said that, our three year old enjoyed visiting the park every day. The local people are very friendly and welcoming. Our dog was happy with her walks along the beach, which is two minutes from the property. A couple of suggestions that could have improved our stay; the cleanliness of the property was not great. A little more attention to detail would really help. It is the small things like lots of dirt in the cutlery drawer. We had to wash this out before attempting to use the cutlery, along with the cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. The bath was dirty with hair in it. Grime around the countertop edges and dust balls like tumbleweeds under the furniture, beds and behind the TV (found when rescuing our little ones toy cars from under the sofa and so on). It did put a bit of a damper on our excitement for our holiday starting but we managed after a bit of a clean. The back court yard is on the small side, which is not a problem in itself, but there is furniture taking up most of the space. Maybe some folding furniture would help to use the space better. Batteries that work in the tin opener or a back up manual tin opener just in case they run out would be helpful. The window in the room with the single beds does not open. The key is present but it does not unlock. The person sleeping in this room has COPD and found sleeping without fresh air difficult. Besides this it is a fire risk and needs attention. There were only two towels put out for all of us despite the literature stating towels provided. We did find a couple in the storage drawer under the bed that we made use of.We did also have a problem with someone parking in the parking space out the front of the property a few times. Luckily no one had taken the space in front of the garage out the back so we were able to park. It would have been very tricky if that space had also been taken as space outside to park is very limited. We would definitely recommend a stay here and we do hope to visit again.
