About this property

Tucked away on The Hill on the outskirts of Millom in Cumbria is Duddon View Cottage. This wonderful, end-of-terrace holiday home benefits from a fantastic location on the fringes of the Lake District National Park, a homely woodburning stove, raised garden with views over Duddon estuary and fells and two well-appointed bedrooms perfect for small families or friends looking to escape to the Lake District. After a fun-filled day in Cumbria, cross the threshold to warm your feet by the woodburning stove while the designated chef of the group whips up a hearty meal in the fully-equipped kitchen. Gather around the dining table to tuck in before stepping outside to soak up the last of the sun on the raised decking in the garden, on colder evenings snuggle up on the plush sofas for a film night on TV. Later, find the ground-floor shower room to freshen up ahead of catching your rest in the double or twin bedrooms. Duddon View Cottage lies a short drive from the centre of Millom where you will find local stores to help ease your self-catered stay and pubs including The Plough Inn or The Clock Tower Bar where you can treat your loved ones to delicious meals and evening drinks or drive up to Lake Coniston for the beautiful views. The coast can also be found in the town, on sunny days unwind on the expansive golden shores of Millom Beach where you can soak up the rays while the kids splash around in the sea. Take a scenic drive south to spend a full day at the South Lakes Safari Zoo, home to an array of animals including giraffes, rhinos, monkeys, and big cats; the whole family will love it! Those looking to explore the great outdoors can venture into the heart of the Lake District National Park to explore lake towns like Windermere where you can take to the lake with kayaks, paddle boards or just admire the breath-taking views from a boat, Ambleside and Grasmere are also well worth a visit. Adventure awaits at Duddon View Cottage. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 996905, together they sleep 12 guests.

The northern shores of the estuary that flows into the River Duddon are framed by this small coastal town on the southern edges of Lake District National Park. At the Millom Museum, you can learn about the town's history, and you can even see a replica of a drift mine, which was once used to extract iron ore for the town's steel mills. 'The Scutcher,' who used an iron bar and his own strength to halt the iron ore tubs, is memorialised by a statue in the town square. The writer Norman Nicholson, who once lived here, is honoured with a stained glass window in St. George's Church; nearby, the Holy Trinity Church features the peculiar "fish" window. The ruins of Millom Castle are worth exploring, and the nearby town of Haverigg boasts a Blue Flag beach, a restored lighthouse, and adventure playgrounds for kids. The 7-ton sculpture "Escape to Light," created by Josefina de Vasconcellos, can be found next to the Haverigg Inshore Rescue station as a tribute to the UK's Inshore Rescue Teams. South Lakes Safari Zoo, Black Combe for walks with breath-taking views, and Sandscale Haws, a National Nature Reserve with an outstanding dune habitat supporting a multitude of wildlife, are just a few of the attractions in the area. Lake District towns and villages like Grizedale, Ambleside, and Windermere are well worth exploring, as are the numerous hiking and biking trails in the region. Take a break and have some fun in Cumbria.

I parked further down the road but once the attached 2 properties are lived in it will be difficult to park safely. Arrived in the cold evening and rain, no heating on so very cold and damp until heated up and no wood, matches or kindling to light the fire. Had to go down to millom and luckily a garage was still open, extra cost of £12. At least leave a complimentary amount for guests. No fireside set either to use with fire so kindling sticks did their best! The inner door needs a latch as I was terrified my daughter or dog would come out after me when packing car onto the road. My daughter also got locked in bathroom as latch is too high to lift over catch. Need more bowls and plates as dishwasher is full there's nothing left. Those deep bowls are hopeless with pasta etc. No cleaning cloths to wipe only sponges and no dustpan etc. Need seating outside, lovely views but have to stand to enjoy them. Overpriced at the moment as too many small things not organised. People come on holiday, not to go shopping for you.

Front door could do with looking at as you have to really push hard to open and close it. On the whole was a lovely place

From the moment we arrived to the day we left we enjoyed staying there so much. Everything we needed was there waiting for us which allowed us to get out and visit the area especially the mountains and lakes. The one downside for us was the shower screen seal which does need replacing. Otherwise everything else was perfect -thanks!
