Blackpool has been popular as a holiday resort since the mid-18th century when it became fashionable in England to travel to the coast in the summer to improve well-being. Blackpool's seven mile sandy beach and promenade are still a popular attraction today with donkey rides, fish-and-chip shops and theatres. Other landmarks include the Blackpool Tower, Blackpool illuminations, the Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Water Park, the Winter Gardens, Blackpool Zoo, or take a ride on the first generation tramway the only surviving one in the UK.
