Inside, the accommodation is incredibly inviting with a nautical theme throughout reminding guests of the sublime coastal setting of the cottage. The open-plan living space has a comfy seating area, where you can imagine cuddling up together as well as an attractive fully fitted kitchen for the chef to rustle up a romantic meal for two and a charming dining table and chairs all ready for guests to pull up a chair and enjoy an intimate meal together. There are French doors here which you can throw open to let the outside in or if the weather allows, then you can step outside and enjoy time alfresco eating and drinking while any dogs can run around safely in the enclosed gardens. At bedtime, make your way to the attractive master bedroom which has feature floor-to-ceiling windows to maximise the light in the space and which offers a relaxing sanctuary, perfect after a tiring day of getting out and about. After a long soak in the bath or a quick dip in the shower, you’ll be refreshed and raring to go. There are beautiful sandy beaches within a few minutes’ walk and the pretty village of Embleton is nearby and there is a fantastic scenic walk from here to the neighbouring village of Craster with the town of Alnwick the ideal location for having a browse and stocking up on essentials. Nearby Embleton Bay is a gorgeous sandy beach with other beaches worth visiting including Beadnell Bay Beach and Newton Haven Beach. Just a few miles away is the stunning Dunstanburgh Castle and if you’ve got a taste for history then check out Alnwick Castle, Preston Tower, Howick Hall and Bamburgh Castle. For a romantic break to remember for a long time, make sure you book a stay at Primrose Cottage.

A picturesque village that seems to tumble into the sea, Craster was an important fishing harbour in the 17th century and is still famous for its oak cured kippers which have graced the best breakfast tables for more than 150 years. The village offers a pub serving food, a fish restaurant and Robson's famous fish shop. There is also an excellent children's playground. Nearby are some of Northumberland's finest sandy beaches. Just south of Craster is Howick Hall, which was built in 1782 and has associations with the Grey family, including Earl Grey the great social reformer and tea enthusiast. The gardens at Howick Hall are open to the public during the spring and summer and are especially worth a visit during the rhododendron season. A walk along the coastal footpath to the north of Craster brings you to the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland.

Electric heater warmed the lounge, bedroom was like a fridge and no hot water until late afternoon the next day. (The very helpful man from Sykes fed back the pressure in the boiler was down) Not the best start to our week at Primrose cottage. Spotlessly clean cottage, beach walks literally on your doorstep. Well equipped kitchen with everything you needed. Great Wi-Fi and lovely books to peruse about the area and wildlife. Very inclement weather saw puddles of water come through the door of the cottages and windows towards the end of the holiday.

This time they were not. This has been addressed efficiently by the agents and the owner, and a refund has been accepted in settlement.

It is warm, comfortable, quiet & extremely well-equipped. The location is wonderful especially for anyone with a dog as the beautiful beach is a five minute walk or you can take the bridle path opposite the cottage & walk to Craster. As other reviews had suggested that the cottage was looking “tired” we didn’t know what to expect, but it would appear that all the issues raised had been dealt with. Other visitors have commented that a shower would be an asset. However, as we only have showers at home, the bath was a treat after a long walk! Would definitely book this cottage again.
