Beadnell is a lovely seaside town with a selection of eateries, pubs, a quaint harbour and a beautiful sandy beach where you can enjoy watersports, walking and wild swimming. Beadnell has a touch of history with the Beadnell Lime Kilns, however for more historical sites head over to the town of Bamburgh where there is the magnificent Bamburgh Castle. This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.

I would have liked a clothes airer as I needed to do some washing and as the weather was a little unpredictable I wasn't sure if I would get enough sunshine to dry it. As it happened, I got 1 really sunny day when I got it dry outside. Also unfortunately we had a power cut on the first Monday which took out all the electrics in the property for over 2 hours. We didn't find the information leaflets on local attractions until the last day and perhaps they would be better placed in the folder by the TV. We couldn't find a handle for the grill pan. Despite all the niggles, Beadnell is still spectacularly beautiful and we really enjoyed the break.

Our smartphones were constantly struggling to connect with servers, never mind download graphics. There is no reason why this couldnât be upgraded - other properties nearby have 30Mbps! Also the top tray of the dishwasher kept collapsing. This had been reported in a review earlier this year but it has not yet been addressed. Itâs a shame to have to raise obvious defects as otherwise House Martins is a good holiday home in terms of comfort and cleanliness.
