The Nook is a cosy mid-terraced cottage situated in a quiet lane within the historic market town of Alnwick, and makes a superb retreat. With its wood burner in the living room, it ensures a warm welcome regardless of the season. The lovely kitchen/dining room is situated at the rear of the property and two double bedrooms on the first floor along with a fresh bathroom.
The Nook enjoys a peaceful ambience, but is also within easy walking distance of Alnwick Castle and Garden. The many facilities available in the town centre includes a wide choice of restaurants, independent shops and a variety of pubs. Barter Books and Alnwick Playhouse are well worth a visit. Alnwick Castle is the home to the Duke of Northumberland and was a film location for Harry Potter’s ’Hogwarts’. Alnwick Garden has a spectacular water feature and the restaurant in the tree house is a popular visitor attraction.
Head west into the Simonside Hills and visit the picturesque town of Rothbury, where the river Coquet flows by. The National Trust property at Cragside, with its Victorian house, lovely gardens and woodlands to explore, is situated on the cusp of Rothbury. Heading east will bring you to the Heritage coastline, this area is renowned for its miles of golden sandy beaches. Beach 5 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Overall we had a disappointing experience. Whilst not the most expensive of holidays basic expectations were not met. Upon arrival the freezer was completely iced up. The promised starter pack for the woodburner was absent and there was an overwhelming smell of damp downstairs - rain water dripped into the dining room fireplace. The property in general appeared somewhat neglected. Several plates were chipped, fabric sofas and carpets were stained, and dead insects were found behind a couch. Taps in the bath and sink were in need of repair, and some radiators were filthy. UHT milk pots were out of date. When I booked the property last year reviews were very favourable, but more recent reviews highlighted issues that have clearly not been addressed.On a positive the owner did take steps to remedy matters - the housekeeper attended to provide wood and defrost the freezer. This could be a lovely place to stay if the house received a little more care and attention.

The Nook provided reasonably good and comfortable facilities for our holiday break. The accommodation is well located for local facilities including restaurants, bars, The Pavilion, and the Castle etc. Access to the various main roads was also very good.In our opinion, the house itself was comfortable for 2-3 persons, but would benefit from a GF toilet (whilst realising the difficult in providing that) if say 4 persons. The stair was a bit tight at the top particularly if you have any walking/ movement issues.We couldn't park outside the property (which was mentioned), but the nearby road was busy during the week of our visit so parking close by was variable.A side issue for us was the TV in the evening.....the need to sign in etc, plus very annoying multi adverts, spoiled our watch when we were settling in after our day's sight seeing........our problem rather than the owners, but still annoying.Alnwick has a variety of good facilities (though check opening times for restaurants etc, as some are closed earlier in the week), a number of places of interest, and The Pavilion which provides an excellent local facility by way of cinema, theatre, music, library, café and so on.Northumberland provides a great visit with a variety of places to visit and things to do, active or otherwise.

The only negative was not really connected to the house but the neighbours dogs which were very vociferous and one of them bit me on the leg one evening as we spoke to the neighbour.
