About this property

Occupying an enviable location in the centre of bustling Alnwick in Northumberland, is this delightful period property, The Gatehouse which is bursting with charm and character and is the ideal destination for a family holiday. The sitting room immediately invites guests into a warm and welcoming space with a comfy seating area arranged in front of a gorgeous woodburning stove, where you can imagine curling up together and catching up on each other’s news or just chilling out. The designated chef will be over the moon with the rustic kitchen which is fully fitted with everything needed to produce hearty fayre for the whole holiday party and when it’s time to serve up, the stylish dining room is ready to welcome guests to gather around the traditional dining table. This is somewhere you are guaranteed to spend a lot of happy holiday time eating, drinking and being merry together. For an alternative space to get away from it all, there is even a snug which is just perfect for curling up with a book and relaxing in. The garden room is light and airy with lovely views over the courtyard garden and is another space that is ideal for gathering together or for spending some solitary time to recharge your batteries. There are four immaculately-presented bedrooms and three bathrooms. Make sure you find time for a soak in the free-standing bath; this is what relaxing holidays are made of! Getting out and about couldn’t be easier from The Gatehouse with the town of Alnwick right on the doorstep. Alnwick is dominated by its stunning castle and gardens which boasts Europe’s largest cascading water feature. The castle’s other claim to fame is that it was the setting for Hogwarts School as featured in the Harry Potter films. The town also has a good selection of shops and amenities as well as miles of beaches to explore. Nearby coastal towns worth visiting include Alnmouth, Seahouses, Warkworth and Beadnell with trips to Farne Islands popular where you can look out for unusual birds and even seals. Other attractions include Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery. The Gatehouse offers period accommodation which is delightfully presented and guarantees guests a relaxing and enjoyable stay in the heart of a bustling town.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
