About this property

Boasting far-reaching views of the ruins of Edlingham Castle and the surrounding Northumberland countryside, is this wonderful cottage, Coal Drops. Lovingly converted from an old coal drop depot for the railway line, this superbly appointed dwelling has been designed to offer a base for a family looking to explore an area steeped with rolling hills, rugged moorland and a heritage of its own. Upon entering this all ground-floor accommodation, be welcomed into the brightly decorated open-plan living room, where views of the surrounding area can be enjoyed from. Rustle up an evening meal within the contemporary kitchen before joining your loved ones within the dining space to tuck into breakfast or dinner and to plan the days ahead. After a busy day exploring the surrounding area, look forward to sinking into the sofa and tune into the TV with a selection of DVD's available or relax within the arm chair to enjoy the views from the glass sliding doors. The property is completed by two well-presented bedrooms, comprising a double and a twin beds, each boasting a refreshing colour scheme, carefully selected furnishings and an en-suite bathroom/shower room to ensure an inviting stay at any time of year. During those summer months, look forward to spending time within the garden area, where you can soak up the surroundings further whilst dining alfresco or your canine companions can stretch their legs on the spacious lawn area. If you can tear yourself away from this wonderful base, venture to the nearby town of Alnwick, where you will be delighted to find a selection of pubs and shops to explore, as well as the Castle Gardens which houses Europe's largest cascading water feature and a large treehouse. From here, venture a little further to the coastal village of Alnmouth where you will find a glorious sandy beach and walks along the breath-taking Northumberland Coast AONB. Coal Drops is a splendid base for a family looking to explore this majestic location.

Alnwick is a historic market town which is overlooked by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. Within the town you will find the Castle Gardens, home to Europe's largest cascading water feature and a tree house. The castle has been made famous as the setting for the Harry Potter films. Within the village you will also find a superb selection of pubs, restaurants and shops to keep you busy.

Our hosts were extremely hospitable and helpful. A lovely welcome pack on arrrival. Super cottage. Super gardens. Loads of room for the dogs to have a grand time in the garden. The driveway to the cottage is a tight turn if you nose in, but reverse in it’s much easier…took me 5 days to work that out! ;-) The only reason I am marking down a little on comfort, and it’s a personal thing, we tend to have blackout blinds and curtains in our bedrooms at home, so it was hard for us to transition to light bedrooms.

Equipment was of a very high standard. Owners hard work has paid off. They were accommodating and friendly in all ways. They deserve every success. Gaenor Tyler
