When you’re ready to begin exploring this historic town, begin with a trip to the incredible and famous Alnwick Castle right on your doorstep, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as ‘Hogwarts’ when filming some of the scenes for the ‘Harry Potter’ films, so it’s a must-visit for any fans. The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant.
Heading 4 miles east is the picture-perfect coastal village of Alnmouth where there is a gorgeous golden sandy beach and painted houses set along the estuary. A short drive west brings you to the small town of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside Hills and where the River Coquet has steppy stones to delight all ages. This is the second time I've stayed in this cottage and already booked again. It's cosy, clean, in an ideal place to visit Alnwick and the surrounding area. Its very dog friendly, my 2 little ones enjoy staying there

The cottage was charming and the location very central.It was easy to access Alnwick castle and garden and also to get to the coast and also inland to Cragside.Personally, with a replacement hip and knee, I would have preferred a walk in shower.

We had a very enjoyable week at Hillcroft. Cleanliness was excellent, location was 5 star and I have never stayed anywhere so peaceful yet so close to the town and all amenities. Just a few things I would like to point out. The living room could do with a proper coffee table or side tables for drinks etc instead of the very low chest. The TV is a smart tv with no terrestrial channels so no flicking through channels, instead you have to go into the apps which is a faff. Also, most bizarrely, we noticed on arrival that there was a really strong smell of garlic in the living room, which not amount of spraying with air freshener (I bought one) ever got rid of. Just a few tweaks to this cottage and it would be perfect.
