About this property

Settled into the outskirts of Alnwick and conveniently close to the A1, Croft Cottage offers fantastic accommodation for a family or group of adults visiting the beautiful Northumberland. Park off-road outside a stone-built barn conversion and enter through a green door, enjoying the selection of historic properties. Once inside you will find yourself in a fantastic open-plan living area with high ceilings and natural light flowing in through a large glass door, so why not head over to the tastefully furnished sitting area and curl up with a good book in one of the stylish sofas? The pale blue, greens and browns are carried into the kitchen, where ample amenities are housed within a kitchen that complements the history of the property, and there is a central wooden dining table, making this an ideal social hub for all guests to enjoy. As well as a family bathroom, Croft Cottage houses three wonderful bedrooms, beginning with a ground-floor king-size with a handy en-suite, and there is also the option of a double with an en-suite and a twin bedroom. Alfresco dining is a must in the pretty garden, sporting a patio with furniture, colourful shrubs and a lawn with a backdrop of mature trees. Alnwick is a fantastic market town most famous for its amazing castle, so spend a day exploring Alnwick Castle and grounds before enjoying a warm meal at one of the local eateries. Alnwick has a section of independent shops as well as easy access to a selection of scenic walks, including Hulne Park riverside walks which go through countryside, woodland and past the castle, Summerseats Viewpoint walk and RRH Brizlee Wood walk. For lovers of the seaside, the coast is only a short distance away at the town of Alnmouth, with its sandy beach and many other amenities including Old School Art gallery and England’s Oldest 9 Hole Links Golf course. Make a family getaway to remember with a stay at the beautiful Croft Cottage.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.

Its a pretty cottage, rural yet very convenient for A1. Inside there is plenty of room for 3 couples or a family, and it is well equipped with everything you could need. A beautiful garden, dozens of bunny rabbits and very pleasant friendly neighbours. We hope to book Croft again for 2025, what more is there to say. Thank you.

Beds were comfortable, water hot, showers good. Bad points The house had obviously not been in use for a time as there were cobwebs all over the property. Bedroom bin had not been emptied, dent in the bathroom wall was possibly caused by the door which stuck when trying to open and close. The downstairs bedroom was extremely cold and cramped. Oven was temperamental. Noise from the neighbours dogs and A1 were loud. If you live in a town or city, traffic noise may not bother you unduly, we live in a village and it felt awful. Vacuum was full of dog hairs. Never had a problem with Sykes cottages before but had to log a call with them upon arrival as we were so disappointed and actually came home early- first time ever.

Well placed for visiting the area. The downstairs bedroom was very cold, the underfloor heating was not adequate and there was no additional heater although there was a sign asking for the oil heater to be switched off before leaving, but there wasn't one !! The shelf in bathroom above the sink in the main bedroom is poorly placed as it gets in the way when try to was tour face. Also it states room for two cars, you do have to park one outside of the courtyard.
