In the morning, once your batteries have been recharged, it’s time to head out and discover the delights on your doorstep. As well as pretty Alnmouth, the compelling town of Alnwick is just a short drive away where you will find a stunning castle and gardens or drive a little further to attractions such as Hadrian’s Wall, Howick Hall and Gardens, Dunstanburgh Castle and Northumberland Country Zoo. Take a boat trip over to the Farne Islands where you might catch sight of an unusual bird or seal. If you love wildlife, then you’ve come to the right place with RSPB reserves at Annstead Dunes and Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre. Situated just 4 miles east of Alnwick, Alnmouth is a charming resort popular with golfers and those seeking a peaceful holiday. The village lies on a narrow spit of land between the River Aln and the North Sea and was originally the port for Alnwick. Nowadays the area has returned to its unspoilt origins and offers a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as an excellent “links” golf course and some great rivers for fishing, as well as boasting miles and miles of splendid beaches and sand dunes to explore which afford stunning views of the North Sea. A short drive will bring you to Alnwick with its famous historic castle, The Alnwick Garden housing the Poison Garden which runs guided tours through dangerous botanicals and a variety of pubs and restaurants. Alnmouth is well situated for exploring Northumberland.
