The White House with Studio in Wortwell is a charming, quirky property with a rich sense of history and a good base for exploring local towns. It offers a well-equipped kitchen and entertainment options like books, games, and DVDs. The garden studio is particularly appreciated by those seeking privacy.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests have reported issues with cleanliness, including cobwebs, spiders, flies, and dirty crockery. The garden maintenance was also criticised, with dog waste from previous occupants mentioned.

While the property's location is described as a good base for visiting local towns, there is insufficient information to accurately score the location based on the reviews provided.

Comfort is compromised by steep and potentially unsafe stairs, which are unsuitable for those with mobility issues or young children. The property was also reported to be cold upon arrival.

Facilities and maintenance issues are prevalent, with reports of falling fixtures, exposed wiring, and non-functioning appliances. The AGA cooker was noted as disconnected, and outdoor lighting was inadequate.

The provision of a welcome gift was a thoughtful touch, although it should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed. The property also offers various entertainment options, which guests found considerate.

About this property

Harleston 2.7 miles. Renovated to a high standard whilst retaining its traditional charm, this spectacular Grade II listed detached cottage and studio rests in Wortwell. With a countryside location and a local pub, The White House with Studio is perfect for a family looking to explore Suffolk. Park off-road and unpack with ease into this three-storey building, where exposed beams in the walls and ceilings add character to this historic property. With a brick feature fireplace and a selection of sofas, recline in the sitting area and soak up the glow from the woodburning stove as you enjoy a good book. Terracotta tiles and an AGA combine with contemporary amenities to create a kitchen where the designated chef will be drawn to create a masterpiece, and this can be enjoyed at the bench table or in the seating area outside, where shrubs and mature trees punctuate the outdoor space and attract wildlife. Leave the utility to deal with your muddy clothes and ascend the stairs, finding a king-size and twin bedroom, both within easy reach of the bathroom, and on the second floor, there is a second king-size with an en-suite and a single, both with sloping ceilings. The Studio offers wonderful additional accommodation with a king-size bedroom, kitchen area and en-suite shower room. The property is in a superb setting close to the wonderful countryside village of Wortwell with easy access to surrounding villages, and has its own pub, where you can enjoy a hot meal and a glass of your favourite beverage in the sunshine, or you can head over to Harleston for a wider selection of eateries and convenience stores, where you can stock up on essentials. If you love history, then head over to the town of Bungay, where you can walk through the ruins and grounds of the spectacular Bigod Castle or travel a little further to Southwold where you can spend the day at the Denes beach or exploring local independent stores and coastal walks. Discover the countryside of Suffolk with a stay at The White House with Studio.

Wortwell is a picturesque village situated in Norfolk but very close to the Norfolk/Suffolk boundary. It is located on both the River Waveney (which forms the county boundary) and the A143 road, some 13 miles east of Diss and 22 miles west of Lowestoft. The village of Wortwell is one of the few Norfolk villages actually listed in the Domesday Book. Today it is home to an award-winning local pub where you can enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal, and there are plenty of footpaths to wander to soak up the glorious surrounding countryside. The village is situated within easy reach of the Suffolk Heritage Coast and there are endless beautiful towns and villages just a short drive away. Nearby Harleston is a friendly town offering ancient inns, charming individual shops, good restaurants and cafes, an art gallery and local museum, and a weekly market. Bungay is a historic bustling market town where you can enjoy following the local Village Trail or pop into one of the many cafes and shops for a bit of refreshment. Other nearby places include Framlingham Castle, a Norman castle currently looked after by English Heritage and well worth a visit. Wortwell is an ideal location for touring the delights of both Norfolk and Suffolk.

1-House freezing cold 13C no heating on in the house or annex bedroom. took over 2-3hrs to get to 20C 2- Property Ad states Open Fire but no log/wood to use or indication that you had to buy it 3- Back fence in corner all broken and open to field. The property states enclosed garden it was assumed that meant secure but after arriving Best of Suffolk folder states not secure? 4- Down stairs toilet light not working Outside front door LED motion sensor light not working very dark had to use car lights so we could see while we unpacked the car. 5- Side of house open to drive 6- Rubbish bin outside full and lots of beer & wine empty bottles on the floor therefore no collection 7- After call Sykes last week before our holiday and after reading the previous reviews which also mentioned the same issues After speaking with Rebecca and also receiving an email was told the AGA had been fixed and they would send someone the check fence issue. 8- On arrival called Sykes and spoke to Alex explained these issues encountered and that I was not happy and would be making a claim for compensation ! 9- Had to call Sykes again as now the downstairs toilet light not working This time spoke to Christine she said she would look into these issues and later called me back with update 10- Not long after a guy turned up Kirk and confirmed the light switch was not functioning properly and told me to leave it on and next week an electrician would sort it He (Kirk) took photos of the fence but by this time I had done a fix with cable ties. He also brought some wood for the fire which was very much appreciated. He also removed all the bottles. He was very nice and helpful and fully appreciated why we was upset Photos can be supplied of all the issues mentioned above please send me an email address so that these photos can be sent.

The spiders weren't really a bother (it's an old house with exposed timbers, I'd have been more surprised if there weren't spiders) but some of the crockery and behind the sofas was covered with a thick layer of dust. The kitchen was very well equipped but the convection hob was finicky and the AGA looks like it has been disconnected for years. The manual hasn't been updated for a while and the housekeeper failed to respond to calls or messages, which would have been a problem if we hadn't finally found the keys to the studio after an hour of searching. The photos don't show the stairs - both those to the first floor and those to the second are unsuitable for people with mobility issues, and dangerous for young children or the elderly. The first set are narrow, steep and slippery, and the ones to the second are very awkward, particularly if trying to carry a large suitcase. I didn't mind too much, as they added to the charm of the property, but it did mean a number of our party weren't able to go upstairs at all. One thing I would recommend is better (any?) outdoor lighting in the garden so that guests can see their way safely to the studio on the uneven path at nighttime. However, the welcome gift was a nice touch, and there were lots of books, games and dvds to keep us all entertained.

The house was very old and oozed charm. It is not a location if you have mobility issues as the stairs are vertical and the second set is more of a ladder (leading to the attic rooms). We were very happy at the location - as the oldest couple, we chose the 'studio' room in the garden, which suited us perfectly. It was a good location to use as a base and we visited lots of the local towns, which were very pretty (Bungay/Beccles particularly).
