About this property

A unique and stunning house built in the 1500's with a look-out-tower that offers fantastic coastal views as far as the eye can see.

A stunning 16th Century merchant’s house that is full of character and has a unique look-out tower at the top of the house that oversees the East Fleet creek and marshes opposite the town’s quayside; telescope supplied, this is a great space for daytime vistas of superb coastal views and night time stargazing.  The house is located in the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea on one of the narrow lanes that leads down to the quay and has its own courtyard garden with a barbecue area, a staircase on either side of the house, two sitting rooms, a shower room or bathroom on the ground to third floors, sumptuous bedrooms and a convivial kitchen/dining space to enjoy reminiscing on the days’ outings together.  The master bedroom is a converted sail loft, which has a stunning heavily beamed ceiling and exposed brickwork walls that gives you a true sense of the history of the house. Now beautifully refurbished, St Michael’s offers creature comfort living and the owners have created a superb holiday home for families and friends alike, that once stayed in will not easily be forgotten.  Shops/Pub: within walking distance

Notes:  This is a non-smoking property. St Michael’s is a very old and unique property and as such there are uneven floor levels both within and without the house. The two staircases are Norfolk winder staircases with narrow treads and steep inclines in keeping with a house of this type and age and we would advise that the house would not be suitable for the less agile.  A security deposit of £150 is payable to Norfolk Country Cottages two weeks before the start of your holiday. Mobile reception –  variable.

Wells-next-the-Sea is a lively coastal town on the north Norfolk coast. With its fine, sandy beach, iconic beach huts and bordered by pine woodlands, it offers a playground for young and old alike, there is even a small gauge railway that will take you down to the beach if you don't fancy the stroll. At the harbour you can see the small fishing fleet unload its daily catch and the quayside is also popular with children, fishing for crabs. There is an eclectic variety of boutique shops, cafes, pubs and tea rooms to browse, with not a chain store in sight and The Buttlands is a lovely part of the town with a tree lined green, fine Georgian houses, pub and restaurant.  Fishing trips, sailing, tennis, a swimming pool and fitness centre and the Wells to Walsingham light railway are all within easy reach and for something totally unique, why not take an Alpaca for a walk across the marshes!  Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with the North Norfolk Coastal path running directly through the town you may not wish to wander far but other delights near to hand include Holkham Hall, Burnham Market and its sister villages, Brancaster, Cley-next-the-Sea and Stiffkey to name just a few.

A beautiful, special and quirky property.

St Michaels Cottage was stunning. The location was fantastic, only a minute from the nearest shops, cafes, restaurants and beach. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. The interior decor was beautiful and the whole feel of the cottage made us feel very spoilt! Apart from the odd walk and mooch about the shops, we hardly left the cottage. Despite booking a table somewhere local for Saturday night we decided to stay in and cook for a third night as the facilities and atmosphere in the cottage were so lovely! It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend due to the company and the cottage!
