About this property

Close your eyes and imagine a long sweeping drive taking you through six acres of glorious mature gardens, imagine croquet on the lawn, imagine a private tennis court, imagine a fantastic swimming pool with a superb pool house, imagine a grand, pillared entrance, imagine symmetrical windows and sturdy chimney pots, imagine period features of the Jane Austin era and a grand and impressive sweeping staircase. Open your eyes, and you are in this quintessential, sprawling Georgian country home, ready for an incredible stay in the gorgeous Norfolk countryside. With eight sensational bedrooms, the incredible Hockham House sleeps up to fifteen guests in pure luxury. If you have something to celebrate, this is just the place for it!

Located in Great Hockham, between the Thetford Forest Park and Norwich, country house splendour awaits. You will find it very hard to leave, and you actually do not need to. Hockham House has it all!

The Hockham House estate boasts extensive manicured lawns, hence the croquet, mature colourful gardens full of blissfully scented roses, a walled garden, topiary garden, vegetable and herb gardens. Next to the outdoor swimming pool, you will find the exquisite pool house. It is a superbly presented three bedroom annexe with a kitchen, lounge, dining area and two shower rooms. This is a perfect bolthole if you have guests in the group that may appreciate a little of their own space. The games room is brimming with toys for all ages, including board games, table tennis and a PS4. If your teenagers have disappeared, you may easily guess where to find them! If they are not here, then they could be playing on the five-a-side football pitch, the tennis court on the grounds or they may have borrowed the bikes provided to explore the estate. There are plenty of deluxe loungers surrounding the swimming pool where you can relax and enjoy the breathtaking garden views. Alfresco dining can be enjoyed using the house’s barbecue.

Inside the main house, you will be greeted with a sight to behold as only the finest Georgian homes are. The splendid welcoming hallway gives way to no less than four grand reception rooms. The principal, traditionally decorated, plush sitting room doubles as a library and offers television. The formal drawing room boasts sumptuous furnishings and a blazing open fire as well as access to the fabulous outdoor patio and walled garden.

The modern, well-equipped kitchen and larder room will impress any chef and leads into the slightly regal, formal dining room. You will dine in style with the finest of Norfolk’s produce. You may want to bring in a professional chef as a treat for some meals. You are very welcome to help yourselves to produce from the vegetable and herb gardens.

The generous, elegant bedrooms of the main house are found at the top of the sweeping staircase. Four of the five bedrooms are presented with plush super king beds while the Lilac room offers a single bed. The Red Room and the Teal Rooms have dreamy en-suite bathrooms. The amazing Georgian windows offer fantastic garden views and let the Norfolk sunshine flood the rooms. The pool house bedrooms are equally beautiful. One has a super king bed that can be converted to a twin, and another has a double bed and the last, a king-size bed. All beds are adorned with luxury linens.

Hockham House is grand, luxurious and offers incredible entertainment space, inside and out. You will not be disappointed. The house is perfect for family and friend celebrations.

The magnificent Hockham House is located in Great Hockham, between the fabulous Thetford Forest Park and Norfolk’s county town, Norwich.

Norwich has a fascinating history and is brimming with ancient streets and alleyways, beautiful heritage sites as well as modern commerce and tourist attractions. Long before the Romans invaded Britain, the Iceni tribe lived in the area. They were led by Queen Boudicca after her husband’s death and you can still explore where Boudicca fought the Romans by taking a walk along the footpath stretching from Norwich to Diss. Norwich today offers fantastic shopping, a magnificent cathedral and Norwich Castle, as well as some excellent parks. The little oasis above the castle quarter boasts incredible city views.

Thetford Forest offers 18730 hectares to explore. It is a patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves providing the ideal setting for family picnics and walks. It is a welcome refuge for a rich variety of animal and plant life and you will find many exciting outdoor play facilities including Go Ape. Lynford Stag is popular for a peaceful forest walk and Lynford Arboretum boasts wonderful bird life, spring flowers and autumn fungi. St Helen’s has a fabulous picnic site.

Just east of Great Hockham village you will find the perfect place for picnics in the forest, with walks on the Green or Blue trails and horse riding through the trees. You should look out for the distinctive features, known as pingos, that were formed during the last Ice Age! If you have brought your four legged friends to Hockham House, this is a great place to come.

If you fancy a beach day, you are spoilt for choice. You can head to any of the popular beaches around the Norfolk coast. There are tourist resorts with typical amusement arcades, fish and chips, bucket and spades, mini golf and so on such as Hunstanton, Wells, Cromer, Caister and Great Yarmouth. Otherwise you can head for more tranquility and beauty at Holme next-the-Sea, Brancaster, Holkham,  Blakeney and Mundesley or the Suffolk beaches of Southwold and Thorpeness. That is, if you can bear to drag yourselves away from Hockham House!
