High Raise in Grasmere offers stunning views and a central location ideal for exploring the Lake District. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, modern comforts, and the thoughtful touch of a welcome bottle of Prosecco. While some guests encountered issues with comfort and maintenance, the majority found the apartment cosy, clean, and convenient, with private parking and easy access to local amenities.
Most guests found High Raise to be clean and well-presented, with a few noting exceptional cleanliness. However, there were instances of dissatisfaction regarding cleaning standards, including reports of stained mattresses and unclean kitchenware, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is highly praised for its stunning mountain views, central position in Grasmere, and proximity to shops, pubs, and walking routes. The availability of a parking space and good bus connections further enhance its appeal.
While many guests found the apartment comfortable with a cosy atmosphere, there were complaints about hard mattresses, low water pressure, and low ceiling beams. The balance of positive and negative feedback results in a good but not excellent score.
The apartment is generally well-equipped, with a stocked kitchen and modern amenities. However, some guests experienced issues with parking, TV operation, and maintenance concerns like mattress quality, which affects the score.
Guests frequently mentioned the welcome bottle of Prosecco, which indicates a high level of thoughtfulness. However, as such gestures are not guaranteed for every stay, this is reflected in the summary.
A romantic penthouse in the heart of Grasmere, High Raise offers couples the perfect spot from which to make the most of everything the Lake District has to offer. Loughrigg, Rydal Water and Easedale Tarn are in easy reach, with more demanding climbs close by. Grasmere itself is a haven for culture vultures and foodies, not forgetting the famous Grasmere Gingerbread and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage.
A private parking space is provided for guests of High Raise. From here an external staircase leads up to the apartment’s private entrance, and an internal staircase to the luxury living space with its magnificent views. The stylish furnishings, exposed beams and sloping ceilings make this a welcoming and exceedingly comfortable home from home, with large picture windows making the most of the surrounding views. Neutral tones work well with the exposed wood and stonework, and the large, comfortable bed guarantees a great night’s sleep. The superb kitchen is well equipped with full size electric oven and dining area, perfect for a lazy breakfast or romantic evening meal.
For those hoping to tick off a few mountains on their Lake District bucket list, the starting point for a popular route up Helvellyn is only a short drive away. The vibrant village of Ambleside with its two quirky cinemas, independent shops and yet more superb restaurants, tea rooms and cafés is only five minutes down the road. High Raise has so much to offer, all year round.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

The flat is very comfortable and the views are incredible. It is well equipped and spacious. One small improvement would be a clothes airer (maybe stored in the hoover cupboard or the clothes cupboard?) as that would really help to dry damp clothes after a rainy walk. We look forward to visiting for a third time sometime next year.
