The Coach House is a spacious and well-equipped cottage in a superb location, ideal for exploring the Lake District with walks from the doorstep and abundant wildlife in beautiful private grounds. Guests praise its comfort, privacy, and suitability for families, with many planning to return. While some mention areas needing refurbishment and minor maintenance, the overall experience is highly positive, with cleanliness and amenities generally well regarded. The property’s peaceful setting and proximity to local attractions are standout features.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well presented, though a few noted areas needing a deeper clean, such as skirting boards and some tired paintwork. One review mentioned an issue with a stained mattress cover, but this was not a common complaint.
The location is consistently praised as excellent, central for exploring the Lake District, with walks, wildlife, and attractions nearby. Some mention road noise in the garden, but this does not detract from the overall appeal.
Guests generally found the cottage comfortable, cosy, and spacious, with good beds and living areas. A few noted that some furniture and beds could be updated for extra comfort, but most found it suitable for families and relaxing stays.
The cottage is well equipped with kitchen appliances, utensils, and modern amenities. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues (e.g., chipped crockery, broken toaster, leaking sink, TV not working), and suggested some refurbishment would enhance the experience.
Some guests appreciated small touches like complimentary milk (though one found it out of date), and the property is well stocked for self-catering. However, gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed, and communication with the host could be improved.

The pretty village of Grasmere is just down the road, where you can explore Dove Cottage, famous as one of Wordsworth’s earlier homes where he and his sister spent 8 years of ‘plain living, but high thinking’. It was here he wrote his most famous work, ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, and is now a fantastic museum about the writer. Grasmere also offers a selection of bars and restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops, where you can try some of the world famous Grasmere gingerbread. Slightly further afield, but not too far, explore Ambleside and Windermere, where you can enjoy steamer rides, the World of Beatrix Potter, rowing or swing amongst the treetops at Go Ape. This is the best holiday home we have ever used. It is spacious inside and out, very well equipped and comfortable . It is within easy walking distance of places to swim, and is on a bus route.

Fabulous cottage in a great location. Very well-equipped kitchen with everything needed for cooking for the family. Lots of walks straight from the house and access to both river and lake only minutes away from the gate.
