Guests appreciate the warm, clean environment and the convenience of parking. While some maintenance issues and cleanliness in certain areas have been noted, the property remains a popular choice for its practicality and proximity to local attractions.

Cleanliness scores vary with several guests finding the cottage clean and comfortable, while others noted dust and pet hair, suggesting inconsistency in cleaning standards. Some minor issues with cleanliness in specific areas such as the bathroom and lounge were mentioned.

The location is highly praised for being central and convenient, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and walking paths. It is considered one of the cottage's strongest features.

About this property

Fernleigh Cottage is an elegant and spacious stone built Lakeland cottage close to the centre of Ambleside. Recently refurbished, the property sits over three floors and offers flexibility for families, small groups of friends or a couple. With a relaxing atmosphere the house sleeps five guests, over three bedrooms, has plenty of living space and features that will enrich your stay. There’s also some lovely views out to Loughrigg and Wansfell, an orchard garden that is great for children to play in or as a place for al fresco dining. Unrestricted parking may be an option to the front of the property, but is not guaranteed. Two visitor's parking permits are provided for cars in the surrounding streets. Fernleigh Cottage is a fine place to spend a holiday and will leave you with a thirst to return.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Ambleside is a lovely place to stay, with a real walkers buzz about the place. Lots of walking/outdoor activity related shops, then gift shops, cafe's, mini supermarkets, and takeaway places. Multiple pubs to choose from too. The house was comfortable, and suited us well. The separate utility room was really useful for laundry and all the wet weather gear. Plenty of space for us. The outside space is small, but is fully enclosed for dogs. You can sit outside on a table and chairs, but it's cosy, and doesn't get much sun. The kitchen is quite small, limited surface space for preparing food, but there is a large dinning table in the open plan dinning room joining the kitchen so that can be used. I'd say the kitchen is adequate for preparing simple meals, but not a 3 course dinner with lots of plates and pans! Parking is free with a provided disc. But we forgot to put the disk on for just 30 mins and got a ticket, so beware! Beds comfy, linens all clean and fresh and place felt clean. Plenty of TVs if that's your thing! The ensuite shower room - the shower is a bit aged, could do with a new shower tray at some point so it looks fresh. I think the place is managed by a central agency, so there wasn't that personal touch of a pint of milk, biscuits/cake on arrival, fresh flowers, that some other places have. If I was coming back to Ambleside I'd stay again. It's a brilliant central location for Ambleside, so you can walk to shops, restaurants and pubs etc in less than 2 mins. Thanks for our stay.

The house was well kitted out and very comfortable for a family of four adults plus one small dog. Would have preferred a double bed in the smaller bedroom but we knew it was a single so can’t complain!

Bedrooms were so spacious and comfortable, both bathrooms were lovely. Lounge was also comfy, and kitchen well-equipped. Whole house was lovely and clean and welcoming. Very handy location for buying fresh pastries in the morning, and for the beautiful park for dog walks. Thanks for a great stay!
