The site has one space for parking, which is restrictive, very tight, awkward for getting in and out of a car. We’ve stayed in other locations that are more modernised and provide more facilities etc for same cost. The site is in need of some more investment; it needs sprucing up, some TLC, it just looks ‘tired’. It listed a DVD player, but there wasn’t one! Personally we like some privacy in the evenings; we had to cover the front door (glass panels) with a blanket, hooked across some sort of clips above the door. Using the stairs requires great care as they are narrow, the steps are small/shallow, and there’s a sharp turn half way up. Not ideal if you are not 100% on your feet. The location is indeed 10 minutes walk from the town central area, but it doesn’t tell you that getting back is a 20% uphill gradient. Not good for people with leg/foot problems. The boat ride on Lake Windermere was fabulous. Bowness is a nice place to visit; so to is Hawkshead. We managed to squeeze in some visits to National Trust sites.

Had a lovely week at Cosy Nook cottage despite the rainy days.It is an old cottage but plenty of modernising has been done to make the cottage comfortable and well equipped without affecting its charm. The stairs are steep and so is the walk up from the center of Ambleside.Good value
