This lovely single-storey end- terrace cottage, named in honour of the resident tawny owls nesting on the estate, is set in an elevated position within the private Priory Manor Estate, and is within walking distance of Windermere town. Its west facing position enjoys unrestricted views across the lake towards the distant fells from Coniston Old Man to the Langdale range, and captures the sun through to sundown. It is perfectly placed for ease of access to explore this magical part of the National Park. From the allocated car parking for two cars you walk via a short pathway to the front door and enter into a delightful open plan living area featuring a fully-equipped modern kitchen, dining and lounge area.
From this room you can enjoy the amenities of the private estate and its fabulous views across the lawn, field and ancient woodland to the lake and fells beyond. The accommodation is completed with a double and a single bedroom together with a family shower room. Outside this charming cottage there is a terrace with seating where you can relax with a refreshing drink whilst planning your days out. The estate is surrounded by magnificent trees and enjoys a wonderful variety of flora and fauna, including free grazing wild deer, foxes, badgers and many bird species. From the cottage, a few minutes walk along the private track (edged by wild snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells in season) takes you to the estates private beach and jetty from which you can also launch canoes and wind-surfers, or simply take it easy on the bench and take in the magnificent vistas and the peace and tranquillity.
Windermere is less than a mile away to reach its eclectic selection of shops, coffee bars, restaurants and pubs. The railway station connects to services to Kendal, Manchester airport and the West Coast mainline to London and Glasgow/Edinburgh. Bowness-on-Windermere is less than two miles away, with a lively evening atmosphere with shops, pubs and restaurants. The Lee area features a pitch-and-putt course, tennis courts, occasional music festivals and lake side walks. Bowness offers lake cruises along or across Lake Windermere to explore walking routes from the boat stop off points. There are boat launching facilities at Ferry Nab, and a ferry to cross towards Hawkshead and take walks along the peaceful far side of the lake.
Alternatively, hop on a bus at the stops near to Cooks Corner to visit Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick, or Kendal and Lancaster in the other direction. TWhit TWoo is a lovely well-equipped cottage and a superb base for enjoying the seasonal vistas and wildlife on the estate and for exploring the Lake District National Park and National Trust sites at any time of the year. Spring and Autumn are particularly special on the Estate due to its variety of wild flowers, rhododendrons and the autumn fall colours of the mature oaks, chestnuts and beeches. Otters have been seen at the jetty, and the antics of grebes in the spring are a delight to observe.
The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park.

The welcome pack from the owners was a nice touch on arrival. However, on arrival, the dishwasher was full of the previous occupants plates, cutlery, etc as there was no telling if they were clean as there was no dishwasher tablets in the cottage - this was remedied quickly by the owner. Similarly, there were other areas of the cottage which had not been cleaned for some time, as I found out after an item rolled under the couch! On one afternoon, my wife attempted to sit outside and enjoy the weather/surroundings. Unfortunately, a dog from the adjoining cottage kept running and barking at her so she had to go back inside - the dog owner made no effort to find what the dog was barking for or recall the dog. As the cottage is close to the lake, and we booked this cottage to go paddle boarding, it would have been nice to have an area where we could hang wetsuits, etc to dry or store equipment securely (the owner mentioned things could be stored around the back but thatâs not really secure).

Lovely views with a great little lakeside jetty to watch the world go by. The walk to the jetty is not suitable for the infirm though as a fairly steep climb back. TâWhit TâWoo is extremely comfortable and well equipped. Thank you for a lovely week
